minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
hi
minimwatch does not work anymore since the update from fedora 37 to fedora 38. It is probably related to the fact that the TopIconsFix extension (necessary according to the installation tutorial) is not updated for gnome 44. So I don't have a minimwatch icon anymore; launching via "activities" doesn't work either. Thanks for any solution to solve this problem |

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
I have been able to make this work by installing the GNOME extension "Tray Icons: Reloaded" on Fedora 38.
I am running with the latest version of Java (Java 20, full version, not headless) and the latest version of MinimWatch (2.2). I have enabled desktop integration for MinimWatch. With this combination, I can start MinimWatch from Activities. Instead of showing the MinimServer icon(s) in the menu bar, it shows a "3 dots" icon. If I click this icon, I get a black pop-up underneath the "3 dots" icon containing all the MinimServer minim icons. I can then left-click or right-click any of these icons as usual. |

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
I installed the extension Tray Icon reloaded, without success. I don't understand which java to install: which version? The one from Oracle, the one from fedora openjdk? I have java-latest-openjdk-1:20.0.0.36-1.rolling.fc38.x86_64 but it doesn't work
Thanks for help |

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
I am using the Java 20 that came with Fedora 38. I activated it using this command:
sudo update-alternatives --config java and selecting the correct option from the alternatives available. Are you using MinimWatch 2.2? There was a problem with earlier versions that could cause it to fail to start on Fedora 38. If the above suggestions don't help, please compress the file minimwatch/data/minimwatch.log using gzip or zip and attach the compressed file to a post here. |

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
the file minimwatch/data/minimwatch.log indicates that minimwatch is working, but I don't have an icon with 3 points. On the other hand by dragging the cursor on the place where it should appear, I see a rectangular shape with rounded corners, and I have then the menu the minimwatch... So it works, but without the icon with the visualization of the colors (green, yellow, gray), it is not ideal. Hoping for a future solution.
Problem solved, thanks for the help |

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
I was seeing what you described at first, then something changed (not sure what) and I started seeing the improved version with 3 dots in the menu bar and icons inside the rectangular shape with rounded corners.
Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to fix the underlying problem of GNOME having removed native support for application-provided tray icons. MinimWatch is less necessary now with most configuration options now available from the MinimServer web configuration page but this doesn't provide the immediate visual feedback of seeing the minim icon change colour. |

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
I didn't know that it was possible to manage minimserver with a web interface. It is indeed easier that way. I will use this method for the rescan command which is 95% of my uses

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
When using the web interface for rescan, be aware that the status doesn't currently update automatically from Starting while the rescan is happening to Running when the rescan is complete. You need to manually refresh the page to see this. Making the status update automatic is on my to-do list.

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
I tried this again today after powering the machine off and on. Initially the MinimServer icons were placed in the taskbar but only one icon was visible. The other icons were invisible (black) but working if you could guess where in the taskbar to click.
After a minute or two, the "3 dots" icon appeared in the taskbar and the icons disappeared. Clicking the "3 dots" icon showed the rectangular shape with rounded corners containing the visible and invisible icons. Again, the invisible icons worked if you could guess where to click. |

RE: minimwatch issue on fedora 38 (gnome 44)
So I am trying Fedora and have installed it on a partition on my machine that also runs Ubuntu. It's running Fedora 40. I have the problem where the icon is not appearing and I did try the TrayIcons : Reloaded however it is still not working.
jason@fedora:~$ java --version openjdk 21.0.4 2024-07-16 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (Red_Hat-21.0.4.0.7-2) (build 21.0.4+7) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (Red_Hat-21.0.4.0.7-2) (build 21.0.4+7, mixed mode, sharing) edit: Ok, so this is interesting. Other applications are showing their icons in the correct spot in the tray, but Minimserver is not. |
