MinimServer and Bluesound Vault
Hi All.
I am new to Minimserver, this forum and Linux. So please help me if you can.
I have installed Debian 11 on an old HP laptop as well as MinimServer 2.2 and it seems to be working fine. The aim is to use the laptop as a music server that can run in the background and service a couple of streamers i have set up. Getting that far took me 2 weeks as i have never done anything like that before.
I have been able to set up the local contentDir on the laptop and access some music there.
Now I want to connect to my music library stored on my Bluesound Vault.
I use the contentDir :- /run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=vault,share=shared (this is the path that the Linux terminal gives me).
and I dont get any highlighted errors.
I was able to access this music once initially but have not been able to do it successfully again since. It may have been since I restarted minimServer laptop.

I have also installed Minimserver on my Windows pc and can successfully access the music on the vault, although it also sometimes disappears.

Could someone give me some direction on how best to set up network drives on Minimserver??

Any suggestions, Questions, links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: MinimServer and Bluesound Vault
You should be able to set contentDir to any Linux or Windows path that can be accessed using a terminal command prompt.

If the path works for a while and then stops working, this is probably caused by some network timeout setting that closes the connection if there is no activity.

RE: MinimServer and Bluesound Vault
A bit more tinkering today found that MinimServer can read the network drive if I manually connect to that drive using the debian Files app first. Is there a way to Map or mount a network drive automatically in Debian? I have also found that the rescanning time is very slow. I only have about 3000 tracks. It seems to take 10-20 minutes plus. Is there a way to speed up rescanning? Could it be that my network is slow or I changed the folder structure?

Usually, the speed of indexing is mostly a function of drive speed. On a solid state drive, it can be very fast indeed. If you are using gigabit Ethernet or fast Wi-Fi, network speed should be less of an issue. That said, if you are accessing your content directory via any form of network connection, it will be slower than a local drive; if you can, it is better to use a NAS that will run MinimServer directly
.
After the initial indexing is done, the indexing process speeds up very considerably, as MinimServer only needs to reindex new and changed files.

RE: MinimServer and Bluesound Vault
Thanks Simon and David. Yes I think a lot of my problems will be solved if I copy all my music to my local files. It seems much faster that way as I have a SSD. The network does seem rather slow.
