album display for genre
Hello - apologies if this was covered in a separate thread - I searched for a similar thread but could not find it.

After updating to 2.2 the Album displayed under Genre is scrambled from the previous set-up.

Using Minimserver 2.2 on a DELA(Melco) N1 SSD and a Lumin T2.

I am not sure what logic is being used at present (it seems random, not oldest/newest/alphabetical) nor is it using the forced choices I had set up previously.

For index tags I have been using:
Artist, Date,Decade, Genre, All Artists, Composer, #AudioData:kHz & bit, #AudioQuality:Format, *RecentAdded, *RecentPlayed

Tag options:
Album.sortTags={+Artist,Date,Album}, Decade.decade.index

TagValue:
Decade.default={Date}

Advanced--->Server options:
indexArtwork=auto

Advanced--->TagFormat:
Album.displayFormat={$album^$#AudioQuality^[^]}

RE: album display for genre
You have specified the album sort order Album.sortTags={+Artist,Date,Album}. This means that albums in the 'n albums' list are sorted first by Artist, then by Date, then by album name. Is this what you are seeing?

If this is not what you are seeing, please provide more information. If you could post a screenshot, that would be helpful.

RE: album display for genre
This is not what I am seeing. Rather, it seems to be showing the cover art of the album which has the first item (song title) alphabetically. Whereas before it was showing the first album alphabetically based on the Artist’s name.

RE: album display for genre
Is the problem that the cover art shown has changed or that the order of albums in the list has changed?

It would be very helpful if you could post a screenshot.

RE: album display for genre
The order of the albums appears consistent with what I expect - what has suddenly changed is the artwork displayed when searching by Genre.

Please see the attached screenshots.

Now showing as the album cover for the Genre “Soundtracks” is Romeo and Juliet - because (evidently) the first track of that album comes first alphabetically out of all album songs in that genre.

Previously what would have shown would have been “In the Mood For Love”. Note - I ‘cheated’ here as I changed the name of the album artist from “various artists” to “.various artists” (adding the “.”) to force the album I wanted to see.

One more note - I’ve not made any changes to my settings - this happened suddenly after upgrading to 2.2.

RE: album display for genre
Thanks very much for this. I now understand what has changed for you. You are now seeing a different picture when you select the Genre index and then scroll to the Soundtracks menu selection within the Genre index.

In MinimServer 2.2, the serverOptions property is set by default to indexArtwork=auto. This causes MinimServer to automatically show images for all index selections such as Genre names.

In MinimServer 2.1, the serverOptions property was blank by default. This is equivalent to setting it to indexArtwork=none. If you change the serverOptions setting in MinimServer 2.2 to indexArtwork=none and restart MinimServer, you should get the same display as in MinimServer 2.1.

On most control points, the indexArtwork=none setting would show no artwork for any Genre names. You are using the LUMIN app as your control point and the LUMIN app is automatically selecting artwork images to display for Genre names. Because these images are selected by the LUMIN app and not by MinimServer, they might be different in some cases from the images selected by MinimServer 2.2.

RE: album display for genre
Thank you that brought the albums displayed by Genre back to what I was expecting. Second level question, however. Is there a way to force LUMIN to show album covers at the top level?

Presently it shows:
1443 albums (with an album photo, not sure how this is chosen)
18099 tiems (with an album photo, not sure how this is chosen)
Artists (blank photo)
Date (blank photo)
Decade (with an album photo, not sure how this is chosen)
Genre (blank photo)
etc etc as per the attached photo

I would prefer to (1) see album covers for all of these and (2) have control over which is shown, if possible.

RE: album display for genre
I have not used this yet, but you can define your own images for the index folders:

RE: album display for genre
It's a feature that I hadn't really appreciated initially, but all the little tweaks MinimServer allows really add up. Not only can you make it a really personal browsing experience but it opens up some interesting options e.g. I have a box set/album grouping index and I use the indexArtwork functionality to add the box set artwork, otherwise it would have inherited from one of the albums. It's the little touches!
