Synology/Windows Minimserver different behavior
Hello Simon,
I’m reporting a issue for a friend
He installed Minimserver 2.1.2 (Starter edition) on a Synology nas DS 220j and use Heos app with a Marantz ND8006.
He has defined a folders structure where under the folder Artist he has several dsf tracks each of them have the album artwork embedded.
Using Heos app no artwork is shown by Heos browsing by [folder view]
Using MConnect Player and browsing the same folder/s artworks are shown.
Then he installed Minimserver on a Windows pc (same 2.1.2 version) defining in contentDir the same Synology share.
In this last scenario Heos can show all artworks, of course artworks are shown by MConnect Player too.
To be noted that with other folders where there are flac tracks instead of dsf everything works fine with Minimserver/Heos running on Synology.
Those symptoms let think that Synology Minimserver version has a different behavior than Windows version (same 2.1.2 release).
Does this different behavior give you some hint?

RE: Synology/Windows Minimserver different behavior
There is no difference between MinimServer Windows and Synology versions (assuming both are running the latest update 218).

Differences in behaviour between Windows and Linux are often caused by case sensitivity of the Linux file system, causing filenames that differ only in case to be compared as unequal on Linux and equal on Windows. Does this provide any clues?

Another possibility is different character sets (UTF-8 on Synology, Windows-1252 on Windows).

RE: Synology/Windows Minimserver different behavior
Thanks Simon, no clues … they are both on update 218.
I don’t think different character set can be the reason in this case nor file name length as the tracks are shown on Synology as on Windows.
The issue is about embedded artworks not shown on Synology while they are correctly shown on Windows.
And there is an evidence … see attached screenshots

RE: Synology/Windows Minimserver different behavior
Try doing a full rescan on the Synology instance of MinimServer (set startupScan to full, then do a rescan). After this, reload the MinimServer library into the control point if the control point requires this. Alternatively, stop and restart the control point.

Also, check the MinimServer log after the rescan for any error messages.
