How uninstall Minimwatch
Hi - I'm a new member of the forum but a long time user of Minimserver Starter package. I am trying to sort out my installed software before trialling the full package and have got stuck! -and would appreciate help. I am not technical and use a very basic system.

I had Minimserver installed both on a QNAP NAS (my live music - mostly classical) and on a Windows PC (a testing system). Yesterday I installed Minimwatch. I then had 2 Minim icons - green for the NAS and red for the PC. Also, the desktop Minimwatch icon was grey. I realised my PC Minimserver setup was very out of date, and I no longer needed it so I uninstalled that Minimserver.

The desktop Minimwatch was still grey and unusable and the minim icon was green. I decided to go back to square one by uninstalling Minimwatch and then re-installing with only the NAS Minimserver. Windows would not allow the uninstall and gave the message 'Minimwatch is running. you must stop Minimwatch before uninstalling'.

My problem is that I cannot see how to stop Minimwatch running. I tried 'Stop' in the green icon menu - same problem. Then tried 'Close' - same problem but icon now grey and also I cannot access Minimserver on the NAS. So - how do I stop Minimwatch so that I can unstall it, then re-install?

Thanks in advance and best wishes - Roy

RE: How uninstall Minimwatch
Welcome to the MinimServer forum! There is no need for you to either stop or uninstall MinimWatch. The grey "minims and stave" desktop icon is a launch icon for MinimWatch. It is always grey (by design) and this is not a problem. Everything you have described indicates that MinimWatch is working correctly.

Double-clicking the MinimWatch desktop icon creates a small icon (single minim note) in the system tray. This icon monitors (watches) the MinimServer instance running on your QNAP NAS and changes colour depending on the state of that instance. Green indicates that MinimServer is running normally and grey (for the system tray icon) indicates that MinimWatch cannot see any MinimServer instances.

There is more information about this on this page, this page and this page.

If you ever do need to uninstall MinimWatch, you can stop MinimWatch by right-clicking the system tray icon and selecting Exit.

When you selected Stop from the minim icon, you stopped the MinimServer media server component on your QNAP NAS. When you then selected Close, you stopped the MinimServer application on the NAS. To restart MinimServer on the NAS, you need to open QNAP QTS App Center and select Start on the MinimServer icon there.

You will get the hang of all this soon. Smile

RE: How uninstall Minimwatch
Simon - many thanks for your rapid - and patient - reply. I now have evrything working properly again.

I hope you are right about soon getting the hang of it all - I am nearly 80 years old and I see that I bought the first disk in my Minimserver library in 1958!

Best wishes - Roy
