Too much tagging information - how do I remove the unwanted excess
Hello
I have a problem with MinimServer installed on my Synology NAS drive, when used with my Cambridge CXN v2. When using the Cambridge app, I see a whole range of data within the folder for each artist which I do not want to see, namely the date, genre, composer etc. All I want to see is the album or albums listed, without any additional tags for date, genre etc. Is there a way of not showing the extra unwanted tags without deleting the information from the main metadata within each album itself? I hope this makes sense. I always edit my metadata within the windows ID tag editor and not using MinimServer as I am still unsure how to use MinimServer to its fullest advantage. I only use MinmServer as it seems to be the only way I can see my music files on the Synology NAS. |

Set the 'listViewAlbums' property to a value of 9999. Refer to the List view and tag view section of the user guide for more detail. |

Thank you Alan, I can see the section you refer to, and it is clear what I need to do. Still unsure as to how to use MinimServer to the best of its ability though.

I guess what I am trying to say is, how do you actually do this? Where do you actually type the text? Is it as simple as typing listViewAlbums=9999 into a text editor of some sort (Notepad for example), then importing it into MinimServer as a new profile? I cannot see anything in the user guide which shows me how to actually do any of these things.
MinimServer is clearly aimed at programmers and I am not a programmer. I do deal with electronics hardware which helps, but have very little programming knowledge. |

Have you installed MinimWatch on your PC or Mac and is the MinimWatch icon showing up? If it is green you can right-click on the icon and select properties, if not, MinimWatch might be blocked by your firewall or antivirus program. There is no need for making a new profile, first task is to get things working. You do not need programming skills once you have MinimWatch working. |

RE: Too much tagging information - how do I remove the unwanted excess
Hi Peter, MinimWatch is on my desktop on the PC and is in grey. It does nothing when clicked. I have tried to use Jarfix but that does nothing either except give me a warning message saying that it is being run under an administrator. So no joy either way.

RE: Too much tagging information - how do I remove the unwanted excess
Do you see a small minim icon (musical note) in your Windows system tray? If not, the icon might be in the overflow area of the system tray. When you have found ths icon, what colour is it? It would usually be either green or grey.
As present, the recommended way to set system properties is by MinimWatch. However, it is possible to create a profile using a text editor and import it into MinimServer. The profile should include a contentDir setting and any other settings you want to add, such as listViewAlbums. Here is an example to show what you might need to put in the profile file. You might need a different value for contentDir depending on where your music library is located on your Synology NAS. contentDir = /volume1/Music listViewAlbums = 9999 The file could be named nickd.profile or any other name ending with .profile. You would create this file on your PC and use a web browser running on your PC to do the profile import. |

RE: Too much tagging information - how do I remove the unwanted excess
Hi Simon
Well, what can I say? I created a text file named NickD.profile using Notepad (using ANSI encoding otherwise it will not save with the correct file extension). This was then imported into MinimServer and set as my default profile. A rescan then accepted it and all looks great using the Cambridge StreamMagic app, just how I want it! I may not bother with MinimWatch if I know I can do things this way. There is no icon in the system tray and despite having tried several things, cannot get it to work, nor does Jarfix do anything either. Thank you for your help….! |

I am pleased to hear the listViewAlbums property has produced the index that you want.
Did you check the system tray overflow area for the minim icon? You need to click the "up arrow" to see this. It is unusual for the system tray icon to be missing. Do you have Java installed on your PC? If so, there could be some problem with your MinimWatch installation. Please try uninstalling and reinstalling MinimWatch. |
