java.nio.file.AccessDeniedException Synology DSM7
Hi Folks,
I upgraded to DSM7.0 a few weeks ago, and all was well after the upgrade. Today however I find that all my content has vanished from MinimServer, and the log has access denied errors on all the music files. I've not changed any folder permissions recently and all users on my NAS have read/write so I'm not sure where this error is coming from. Do I need to assign a special user permission perhaps? Thanks for any help you can give. Robert |

RE: java.nio.file.AccessDeniedException Synology DSM7
OK, can't explain why this was suddenly an issue, but the "everyone" group was not allowed to delete files or folders. Once I added this right, then the exception vanished. Surely delete permission isn't required?
Anyway, I've got my files back. All is well. |

RE: java.nio.file.AccessDeniedException Synology DSM7
On DSM 7, MinimServer runs as a special user MinimServer which is a member of the 'administrators' group. The 'adimistrators' group would normally have access to your music library folders and files.
To solve this problem, you need to assign read permission for your library files to the MinimServer user or the administrators group. You can do this in File Station (see this post) or Shared Folders (see this post). These posts talk about a profiles folder but the approach described should also work for library folders. I don't know how it could have been working previously on DSM 7 and not be working now. |

I just saw your follow-up post. MinimServer does not require delete permission. This seems like a glitch with DSM.

RE: java.nio.file.AccessDeniedException Synology DSM7
You are right that something peculiar is going on. I don't have a MinimServer user that I can see. I'm sure there used to be one, but no longer it seems. Also the Administrators group did not have access to the music folder, which clearly did not used to be the case.
Via SSH I can see the MinimServer user, even though it isn't visible in the DSM GUI: CloudAdmin@Claudia:/$ id MinimServer uid=251953(MinimServer) gid=251953(MinimServer) groups=251953(MinimServer),101(administrators) I guess adding my music share back into the folders that administrators can administer will fix the problem properly. Should I be able to see the MinimServer user in the GUI though? |

RE: java.nio.file.AccessDeniedException Synology DSM7
There are some aspects of DSM 7 that seem strangely inconsistent (I am being polite here). In the DSM GUI, sometimes the MinimServer user is shown alongside other users (see this post) and sometimes you need to select "System internal user" to see it (see this post). In other places in the GUI, the MinimServer user isn't shown at all.
