Is it possible to override file-embedded album artwork with a freestanding JPG file?
Hi, I have a lot of albums that I ripped to FLAC many years ago. At the time, I was using ripping software that embedded artwork into the FLAC files. Many of these embedded images are extremely low resolution (7 to 10 KB). When I play these albums using Auralic Lightning LDS and Linn Kazoo, the low-resolution album cover image is displayed. Ideally, I would like to override these embedded cover images by downloading a higher-resolution image and storing it in the folder containing the FLAC files (as opposed to retagging every FLAC file). Is this possible? I tried it with one album folder and it did not work, but I may be misunderstanding the album art search order protocols discussed here:

Yes I think you can do what you want. See the Artwork section here

RE: Is it possible to override file-embedded album artwork
With the current search order for artwork, you would need to create a high-resolution filename.jpg or filename.png file for every filename.flac file to override the low-resolution artwork embedded in the file. See point 1 under "audio file" in the Artwork section.
It shouldn't be difficult to remove all your embedded artwork using a tagging program. Which tagging program do you use at present? |

RE: Is it possible to override file-embedded album artwork with a freestanding JPG file?
Hi Simon and Peter, and thanks for the responses. That is what I thought/feared, Simon. I use Mp3tag for Mac for file tagging. I guess I will begin removing embedded artwork, starting with the albums I listen to the most. Thanks again.

RE: Is it possible to override file-embedded album artwork
To do a batch removal of embedded album art from all your files using Mp3tag, you can follow the procedure described on this page.
Note: I haven't tried this myself. I suggest you start with a single folder. |
