Minimserver 2 on Pi

I am moving up to version 2 on Pi

I have uninstalled old version

copied the *.gz from your site to /home/pi

tar xf MinimServer-2.0.16-linux-armhf.tar.gz

No problems so far

minimserver/bin/setup

gives me

pi@Matt:~ $ minimserver/bin/setup
mv: cannot stat '/home/pi/.minimserver/bin/setup': No such file or directory

My second attempt at an answer... it looks like you removed the previous installation partly but not completely and this is confusing the new setup script. I suggest you run the command

rm -rf .minimserver

and then run minimserver/bin/setup again.

For future reference, the recommended way to move up to a new version is with the minimserver/bin/update command (see step 5 of this section).

-bash: minimserver/bin/setup: No such file or directory

Unfortunately your new installation of MinimServer has become damaged because of the previous error. You should be able to recover by running the command

rm -rf minimserver

and starting again with the tar xf command.

Thanks This seems to be working - it takes a long long time to rescan but seems ok

I don't know where the dot in .minimserver crept in to all this

The first rescan takes a long time because MinimServer is building its cache. Subsequent rescans should be much faster.

The .minimserver folder is used for migration from one version to another. If you use minimserver/bin/update to do this, MinimServer takes care of everything automatically including the .minimserver folder.

How long should it take for minimserver 2 to create a from scratch library on a Pi over just over 100,000 songs on a network windows disc?

Which model of Pi? What is the I/O speed of the storage device that you have used to install MinimServer? What is your actual (not theoretical) speed for reading files across the network? and the processing power and I/O speed of the Windows machine? and the load on all the above from other activity taking place at the same time?

A simple way to estimate how long it will take is to open the MinimServer log window and select Verbose logging. You will see every folder that MinimServer is reading. From the time taken to read each folder, you can estimate the total time.
