MinimServer drops off LAN
Hi,

I have recently installed a new EE Smart Hub router replacing the original EE Technicolor router which died and have been experiencing problems regarding my Rapsberry Pi music server running MinimServer. With my old router I just left the music server running (sometimes for months without rebooting) and it just worked.

Unfortunately since installing the new router with exactly the same LAN cables and switches as before, the music server drops off the network randomly and sometimes reattaches without a reboot. When the MinimServer has apparently dropped off I can still see and login into the Rapsberry Pi it runs on remotely via a laptop or PC and see that the MinimServer is still running fine.

I've looked at all the router settings I can find and searched the router event logs for any hint of the problem but cannot find anything. Can anyone provide help?

Thanks,

Ade

RE: MinimServer drops off LAN
This is a UPnP multicast discovery problem. If you can disable IGMP snooping in the router settings, this might help.

If this is the same as a BT Smart Hub, multicast is supported on wired connections only, not wireless (see messages 2 and 4 on this page). Can you try using a wired connection to confirm that this is the problem?

All connections are wired not wifi except the mobile phone control points.

This doesn't seem to be an option on the router.

When you say the server "drops off the network" do you mean it is not visible in your wireless-connected control points? If so, this router limitation would explain the problem.

Yes, the minimserver randomly disappears from the list of available servers, whether that be wireless from a phone app, Bubble uPnP, or on a windows 10 PC via a wired connection directly into the router to which the RPI/minimserver is also connected via a wired connection.

RE: MinimServer drops off LAN
The last of these (Windows 10 PC) is not explained by the post that I referenced above. Despite this, I think it is likely to be the new router that is causing the problem.

After a control point and a server have established a connection, the UPnP protocol requires a server to send an "alive" message via multicast at least once every 30 minutes. If the control point doesn't receive this message within 30 minutes, it assumes the server is no longer running. Does this match the symptoms you are seeing?
