Can't open Minimserver
Unfortunately, I'm unable to launch Minimserver on my PC. I would normally open it via the Minimwatch desktop short cut. However, whilst this normally then opens Minimserver within a few seconds, with the icon turning green, the icon is staying grey. If I try the minimserver desk top short cut the icon remains red with the message "No valid content directory found". Minimserver certainly appears not to be open as I also cannot access via the IP address on the web browser and the it's not showing on my control point (iPad). I have tried turning router, Melco, PC and control point off for 5 minutes but this had no effect.
I do recall this same message a few months ago but cannot now recall how I resolved the problem. Grateful for any advice. Thanks. |

When you right-click the red minim icon, are you able to select the Properties option? If yes, then you can add your music library to the Content Dir property. But is this what you actually want to do, i.e. start MinimServer on the PC? I presume you have MinimServer installed and running on the Melco. |

When I do look at properties it appears that Content Directory is populated with the previous folder I used prior to getting the Melco ~13 months ago. Also, some of my changes to other properties appear to not ne those I have added over the past few weeks/months? I did a backup of the music on the Melco, both via a USB drive and from my PC (internal folder) to a second drive. I wonder if somehow it has reverted the backup to an "older" version of minimserver I ran?? Any thoughts? Thanks. |

Sorry, in answer to your second point, yes, I do have Minimserver installed and running on the Melco. I was trying to open on the PC to rescan the music folder and update my control point as I had just downloaded an album. |

RE: Can't open Minimserver
It sounds like your old MinimServer version is installed and running on the PC. You should ignore this version (or uninstall it). To access MinimServer on the Melco, you need to use MinimWatch on the PC, not MinimServer on the PC.
The grey icon problem with MinimWatch on the PC might be caused by a Java update on Windows causing a problem with your Windows firewall settings. See the MinimWatch can't find MinimServer section for more information. |

So just to clarify, I need to manually edit properties in minimserver on my PC to change the directory and amend other tags I have changed over time? Hopefully, this may resolve the problem. Otherwise it could be a Java problem, and I'll refer to the link you gave. I will continue to start Minimserver via Minimwatch on my PC. Thanks. |

I notice there are a number of properties in minimserver that I believe were auto populated when it was loaded with the purchase of the Melco etc. Is there a way in which I can load these as standard (reload minimserver?) and then simply add my personalised tags, or do I need to manually change all tags? Thanks. |

RE: Can't open Minimserver
I think to avoid confusion it would be better for you to uninstall MinimServer from your PC unless there is a good reason for you to have a second copy. You need to solve the "grey icon" problem so that you can access the MinimServer properties on your Melco.
When you have solved the "grey icon" problem and you are able to see the MinimServer properties on your Melco, all the properties should be as you want them. |

RE: Can't open Minimserver
I was suggesting that you uninstall MinimServer from the PC without reinstalling it. As you are running MinimServer on the Melco, I don't think you need to run MinimServer on the PC as well.
You just need to run MinimWatch on the PC and get this working correctly. For this you will need to update your Windows firewall settings (assuming this is what is causing the "grey icon" problem). |
