Operation and possibilities of the program
Hello Simon,
thank you very much for the work on Minimserver 2. i bought this software. I have been working on the Minimserver lately. I don't know which work is in the minim server. I am not a programmer and my English is not very good. I hardly understand the user manual. It seems to be written for programmers and insiders. Also in the forums I don't understand many things. When I try to implement an idea of a user, I often get error messages and don't understand why. Many don't understand the program, which is a pity. Because the Sever is fast and good. I am just a music lover and want to surf through my music library in an easy way. I use a Linn (with the app "Linn" and "Linn Kazoo"). The music files are on a Synology DS 218+ and I configure it with MinimWatch on iMac. Here are my suggestions: 1. the translation file "ServerBundle_en.defaults” 2. the user manual 1. ServerBundle_en.defaults: "items" are in German not "Artikel" but "Titel". "unknown" in German means better "unbekannt", not "unbekannte". the square bracket "[ ]" for "[unknown]" is not necessary in my opinion There is a problem when you create a "ServerBundle_en.properties": here: "ServerBundle_en.defaults" (Picture 1) Shown is the menu help on the right: "A B C D" etc. This menu help simplifies the search considerably. For "ServerBundle_en.properties" the menu help looks like this (Picture 2) The menu help: on the right: "A B C D" etc. is missing, which makes the search much more difficult. 2. user manual: It is a very long continuous text. No internet translation can translate it, because the amount of characters is limited. The translations do not help either, because many references are not clear. In my opinion, too many programming details are explained in this user manual for the users. Screenshots would be very helpful to understand where which settings or entries have to be made. The interface (MinimWatch) for the Mac version is strangely blurred. Many settings in MinimWatch on the "Advanced" tab are not explained. In any case I can't find any instructions that are based on the program's interface. At least I haven't found any. Nevertheless I like to use this program. Thanks again for the work! Most server programs are far from being as fast and flexible. Please do not understand this mail as a complaint, but as a suggestion from a user who unfortunately has no idea about programming. Best regards |

RE: Operation and possibilities of the program
Thank you very much for these comments and suggestions.
Regarding translations, "Titel" for '"item" was also suggested in this thread. I will change "unbekannte" to "unbekannt" as you suggest. The square brackets are used to distinguish special index entries from regular index entries (tag values). I am not sure exactly what you did to produce pictures 1 and 2. Did you modify the contents of ServerBundle_en.defaults and ServerBundle_de.defaults to create ServerBundle_en.properties and ServerBundle_de.properties or did you copy the files exactly? If you modified these files, what changes did you make? Also, how did you change your language setting from German to English to select ServerBundle_en.properties instead of ServerBundle_de.properties? Was this done by changing the NAS language setting or by changing the MinimServer language setting? The A B C D etc. at the right of the page is produced by the control point, not by MinimServer. Which control point are you using? If the A B C D etc. is missing, this is usually caused by some entries in the list not appearing in strict alphabetical order (as understood by the control point). If you scroll down the list in picture 2, do you see any entries appearing in a different order from the order in picture 1? The blurred fonts on Mac will be fixed soon. To find explanations for the property settings on all tabs (Server, Advanced and System), select User guide from the left sidebar, then select MinimServer properties. This page has a complete list of all properties and each property has a link pointing to the section that describes how the property is used. I understand that the User guide is not an easy read and is not the best entry point for a new user. This is why I have created Quick start guides for MinimServer 2. At present, these guides cover the basics of installing and operating MinimServer. I would like to extend these guides to cover other aspects of configuring and using MinimServer. It would be helpful to know what are the most important topics that people would like to see covered in this way. |

RE: Operation and possibilities of the program
Thank you very much for your questions. I copied the ServerBundle_de.defaults and made the changes in the file, then renamed this file to ServerBundle_de.properties and finally copied it to the folder on the Synology NAS. I did not change the English language file. After this change, the above mentioned problem occurred. This makes navigation through the music files more difficult.
I do not understand what you mean by "control point". I achieved the German-language display by setting the language output in German in the "Control Panel" under "Regional Options". |

RE: Operation and possibilities of the program
The control point is the app that you use to view your music and is or is not showing A B C D on the right side of the screen. Which app is this?
Please post the full contents of the ServerBundle_de.properties file you are using. I have an idea about what could be causing the problem and I need to see this file to confirm this. |

RE: Operation and possibilities of the program
The problem with blurred fonts when using MinimWatch on Mac is now fixed in MinimWatch 2.0.18.
