Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
For many years I have used iTunes to manage my music collection.
Almost all of my music was, for many years, lossy mp3, m4a. I have recently embarked on a process of re-ripping my CD collection to .flac (Perhaps I should have gone .alac, but ... reasons) The .flac rips are saved under a seperate lossless/ folder structure. This has left me with many instances of duplicate albums/tracks. I need keep the lossy versions, as I continue to use the apple ecosystem, to manage and sync music to various iOS devices but, I would like to try and eliminate lossy duplicates when playing from Minimserver. I could try and manually add each of the lossy duplicates to excludePattern, but this would be rather unwieldy (if it would work at all) Another approach might be to re-structure the lossy duplicates by adding something to the album name that would allow bulk identification with an excludePattern, but that would not be my preferred option. Has anyone else come up against this issue or have any suggestions ? |

RE: Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
You can try to set #AudioQuality or/and #AudioFormat in your indexTag list as described here (Special index and item tags) https://minimserver.com/ug-browsing.html...tem%20tags

RE: Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
Yes, I do already have both of those set, which does help to identify which of the dupes is higher quality, but does not eliminate the lossy dupe.

RE: Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
If you set them in indexTag list you can filter different formats. Maybe you have now set them in itemTag list

RE: Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
Yes, I have them in the indexTag list, and yes, you are correct, I can filter by #AudioQuality or/and #AudioFormat, however, it doesn't seem to work in practise.
For example, lets say I want to play a Genre i.e. Minimserver > Genre > "Acid Jazz" .. contains 36 items including 27 lossy files and 9 duplicate .flac's. If I choose Minimserver > Genre > "Acid Jazz" > #AudioFormat > FLAC .. I only get the 9 .flacs I would like to be able to play all of the "Acid Jazz" tracks, but with the 9 FLAC's instead of both the 9 FLACs and the 9 lossy mp3 dupe's. I hope that makes sense. |

RE: Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
Maybe I don’t understand..... when you have your 9 Acid Jazz flacs listed can’t you play them? You shouldn’t see the lossy ones. What control point are you using?
You should be able to navigate in this way Genre — Acid Jazz —— #AudioFormat ——— flac ———— item #1 ———— item ..... ——— mp3 ———— item #1 ecc... |

Or you could navigate this way
#AudioFormat —— flac ——— genre ———— acid jazz ————— item#1 ecc... —— mp3 ——— genre ———— acid jazz ————— item#1 ecc... |

RE: Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
Using Linn Kazoo and yes, thats correct, I can navigate as per your example.
So your suggesting that I add, the flac items to the playback queue, then add the mp3 items to the queue (except for the duplicates) ?? To do that I would need to add the mp3 items manually ? |

RE: Eliminate Duplicate Albums/Tracks
I think I understood now .... you have “some” duplicates and you want to play not duplicates tracks (being them flac or mp3) all together. I don’t know how to solve this ... maybe Simon can help
