New to minimwatch. Why is minimwatch shortcut Greyed out and will not open?
Sorry this is day 1 on trying to set up MinimWatch / MinimServer with my itunes library on a QNAP TS251A and Bosesoundtouch.

I'm running windows 10 and I've followed the reassuringly simple process to download and run MinimWatch on my computer and the MinimServer on the NAS.

Ive updated Java and enabled the Jave app with the firewall. All ok

The minimwatch is still grey and will not open, its running according to the computer, as I have to end it running via the Exit key in the tray (MinimServer is yellow by the way)

The Bosesoundtouch connects and plays the itunes library but there are 6 copies of each album?

But how do I get the MinimWatch to open so I can correct the library issues?

Thanks if you can help me and point me in the right direction

The minim icon (small single musical note) in the system tray is shown when you launch MinimWatch. It changes colour depending on what MinimServer is doing. Right-click this minim icon to see the configuration and control options for both MinimServer and MinimWatch. The grey "stave and two minims" icon on the desktop is the MinimWatch launch icon and does not change colour or do anything other than launch MinimWatch.

The above details are confusing as they appear to conflict with the following description, excerpted from the Minimwatch installation guide.

MinimWatch will display a tray icon for each MinimServer instance running on another computer or NAS on your local network. The tray icon has a minim symbol and its colour shows the status of the MinimServer instance:
If the icon is yellow, MinimServer is starting
If the icon is green, MinimServer is running normally
If the icon is red, MinimServer has detected an error
If the icon is white, MinimServer is stopped
If the icon is grey, no instances of MinimServer were detected

Assuming the latter, check the Windows Defender firewall inbound rules
1) type ‘firewall’ into the Windows 10 search box
2) select the highlighted Windows Defender firewall entry
3) select Advanced settings, from the left hand column
4) select Inbound rules, from the left hand column

There should be two entries in the list for Java™ Platform SE binary, TCP and UDP, that are enabled and allowed.

Edit - Simoncn beat me to it. ??

Thanks both of you. I'm grateful for your help and for taking the time to reply so quickly.

I'm not the best with technology and my NAS drive is probably a step beyond my competence.

Alan the Java permissions were given, it was just my misunderstanding that the grey shortcut did more than launch the program.

I just need to sort the library out on the NAS I think

Thanks again

Barney

I have the same problem. Minimserver is working fine on my QNAP NAS. I have Minimwatch on my Windows 10 PC but the icon is grey (actually it is more blue to me).
In Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security (Inbound rules) there are pages of entries but I cannot see any relating to "Java™ Platform SE binary, TCP and UDP"
What do I do now?

The first step is to confirm that it is a firewall issue by completely disabling the Windows firewall (for both public and private networks) for a very short time to check that MinimWatch is able to find MinimServer when the firewall is disabled. As soon as the test is complete, re-enable the firewall.

I turned off both firewalls and after a short while, the icon turned green. I've now enabled the firewall again.

RE: New to minimwatch. Why is minimwatch shortcut Greyed out and will not open?
I have now done the following and MinimWatch is now green...
Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall
Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall
Allow another app...
Browse...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_91\bin\javaw.exe
Add
Ok
