I found a workaround. I copied the offending file to my mac and deleted the one on the NAS. I then edited the tag in Fission by putting in a date and reloaded it to the NAS. Then I rescanned and MinimServer didn't report an error. I then repeated the process and deleted the date and rescanned and again no error was reported in the log.

I don't understand it but no doubt it makes sense to you. The lesson seems to be don't make changes using Synology File Station if there is an empty date tag.

I really appreciate you patience and help.

Yes, this makes sense. From this evidence, Fission is working correctly and Synology File Station isn't.

The ©day field is the location where the date value is stored in a .m4a file.

You might also want to investigate Metadatics. This is a very good tag editor for the Mac.

RE: folder view and track order
Thank you I will check out Metadatics.

I should like to return to the original aspect of my post if you don't mind. I tried as an experiment using my control point to view the same albums 'by folder' using Synology Media Server and found that they displayed correctly. However, a track number in the form '01 - ' was inserted before the track name presumably by Media Server. This is clunky and not desirable but it works.

I wonder if there is a setting in MinimServer which I can amend to make it display like Media Server without having to switch to Tag View at least until I get clarification from the control point developers about why this is happening. This would give me the best of both worlds, having the superior features of MinimServer with tracks displayed in track order.

Many thanks.

You can do this by using tag formatting. In the tagFormat property, add the setting

Title.displayFormat={$tracknumber^^ - ^$title}

You will also need to add Tracknumber to the itemTags property.

RE: folder view and track order
Thank you Simon, I am delighted.

It works fine and although not as elegant as the default display it means I am not having to switch to Tag View when in [folder view] to find the first track to begin playback, which can be tricky if you have 3 tracks in an opera named Overture or 50 chapters in an audiobook.

I thought it was probably possible and tried to figure it out myself from the User Guide but was defeated by my lack of knowledge and experience. Your instructions were very clear.

I am heading to the donation section!
