folder view and track order
I browse through my collection in folder view (I think that will change one day). And because it is called "folder" view, MinimServer shows my folder structure, whereas the tracks within the folders are displayed correctly in the given order of the original disc. For example:
Andante Presto Molto allegro Finale In the old days of Twonky it was the same, but one day when I had installed a new version of Twonky this had suddenly changed. Twonky went from "folder view" to some kind of "file view" and I saw the tracks in alphabetical order like this: Andante Finale Molto allegro Presto So I had to re-tag my collection and the file names now look like: 01 Andante 02 Presto 03 Molto allegro 04 Finale I don't like the leading numbers (and with Kinsky I have the number twice). So I would like to re-tag my whole collection once again. But I will not do that without Simon promising that MinimServer will do it right in all future releases. |

I have no plans to change this, and I will not change it unless the current approach causes a bug that I can't solve in any other way. Is this enough of a "promise"?

I have the opposite wish to that held by Dieter. I want to see track numbers on my iPad as well as the name of the work and the name of the movement or (in the case of Opera) the Act and scene number. As well as giving me the name of the work and the name of the movement, Simon Nash's software brilliantly produces the artwork, composer, and artists as well; but no track numbers appear unless I create them in Itunes before ripping the CD. Can I make your software do this automatically, Simon? In case this is relevant i have an Apple laptop, Naim Unitiqute streaming amplifier, and Netgear external hard drive; I use n-stream on my Ipad to operate the system. Minimwatch has a Properties tab which produces computer code which I am not competent to operate or alter, at any rate without a foolproof set of instructions; there is no Preferences tab. Please explain in more detail what you mean by "create them in Itunes before ripping the CD". Ripping a CD in iTunes with default options should automatically put track number tags in your files. If you have track numbers tagged in your files, you should see these track numbers in the track list displayed by n-stream. However, it seems that n-stream doesn't show the track number on the Now Playing screen. See the screenshots attached to this post for an example. Is this what you are seeing? What exactly would you like to see instead? |

RE: folder view and track order
I hope this point hasn't been covered elsewhere on the forum but I've searched and can't find an answer.
I really like Minimserver and prefer using folder view, which I have loaded with folder and artist artwork. The drawback is the fact that album track order is usually displayed in alphabetical rather than in track order. I know I can switch to Tag View but find it makes the experience less satisfying. My control point is the Stream Magic app on an iPad. Sometimes it appears that the app starts to display the tracks in track order but then switches to alphabetical order. Some albums are displayed in track order even though the tag and name order are not identical and I don't think there is any difference in the way I have tagged these albums. It is this inconsistency that makes me wonder if there is a way of getting all albums to display in track order rather than alphabetical order without using Tag View. |

MinimServer sorts tracks in track number order in folder view, assuming that the track files contain valid TRACKNUMBER tags. Some control points don't respect the sort order that MinimServer sends them but impose their own (alphabetical) sort order instead. |

RE: folder view and track order
Simon
I thought it was probably a control point issue but what confuses me is that it doesn't happen consistently with some albums being displayed correctly in track order. I am not sure what you mean by 'valid TRACKNUMBER tags' as apposed presumably to ones that aren't valid. Does validity relate to matching against a database or something else? Many thanks |
