multiple "album artist" tags

multiple "album artist" tags
Are multiple 'album artist' tags possible? I have a number of tracks tagged with both multiple 'artist' and 'album artist' tags. The latter is important to me as my preferred browsing pattern is via album artist. Tracks appear correctly when browsing by artist, but when browsing by album artist, tracks with multiple tags do not appear under the artist's name -- rather, they only show up under 'unknown'. For example, an album tagged "Miles Davis" and "Gil Evans" appears correctly when browsing by artist, but does not appear under either artist's name when browsing by album artist -- only under 'unknown'. Both fields are tagged using mp3tag and the '\\' separator between tags. MP3 tags are ID3v2.4. In mp3tag, I can see that the album artist tag is in effect showing up as separate tags for each artist. I also have multiple genres tagged this way, which are working correctly.

RE: multiple "album artist" tags
The limitation of a single AlbumArtist value has not changed. You can use aliasTags to work around this but there could be some side effects. If you notice any issues from doing this, please post back here.

RE: multiple "album artist" tags
That's weird. I have a number of albums with multiple album artist tags, and they appear under both artists (all I get is a warning in the log). I wonder why it works for me and not the OP (I don't have aliasTags set either, but I do have Artist:Album Artist in indexTags)

It is likely that your files have multiple Artist tags, perhaps in addition to multiple AlbumArtist tags. Multiple Artist tags are fully supported by MinimServer.

RE: multiple "album artist" tags
They are in both, they are collaborations so all the tracks have both artists in artist tags as well as in album artist tags.
Are they both appearing under album artists because Minim creates the album artist tag from the tracks rather than the tag? If so what would happen if any tracks have different artists again (like a guest)? Just curious!

RE: multiple "album artist" tags
Because you have Artist:Album Artist in indexTags, all your Artist tag values appear in the Album Artist index.

Umm. I have Artist:Album Artist purely to rename the container. Similarly I have All Artists:Artist to rename that one. I am pretty sure Minimserver "Artist" is the album artist:
Quote:The Artist index provides main artist information. It contains AlbumArtist tag values for albums that have this tag and Artist tag values otherwise. This index is included by default and can be excluded by removing Artist from indexTags.

It was a while ago now, but I think I did that purely for the reason the OP has highlighted, rather than use the AlbumArtist index (or it could be because that's excluded by default and I never got around to adding it!

I just checked anyway. For example, I have one track by A Flock Of Seagulls, from a Various Artists album (track artist tag is A Flock Of Seagulls, track album artist tag is Various Artists). A Flock of Seagulls only appears in my Artist container, not Album Artist one.

Could be I stumbled on a solution for the OP?

RE: multiple "album artist" tags
The MinimServer Artist container contains the (single) AlbumArtist if the allbum has one. If there is no AlbumArtist value (this includes the case of multiple AlbumArtist values, as these are ignored if present), the Artist container contains all the Artist values.

The MinimServer All Artists container contains all the Artist values.
