Radio Paradise Lossless
Feeling very proud of myself for having (albeit with a little help!!) successfully installed MinimServer on a Raspberry Pi, I am wondering…

a) is it possible to stream Radio Paradise's lossless stream/source to my naim streamers/network players via MinimServer?

b) if so, could anyone please be so kind as to provide this noobie with detailed and easy-to-use guidance?

Mike

RE: Radio Paradise Lossless
I suspect you would have to add the flac stream URL as a custom one in MinimStreamer. I've had a look for it, but the links on the RP website aren't working.

RE: Radio Paradise Lossless
Unfortunately, it's not as straightforward as obtaining the URL. The FLAC stream is provided using their own (custom) protocol, which has added optional features such as album art and the ability to skip to another track.

Having said that, perhaps it's not too tricky to implement - LMS has a 3rd party a plugin for it. Plus Simon does have a track record for sorting unusual FLAC radio - re the BBC's experimental lossless MPEG-DASH FLAC R3 stream from a couple of years ago (sadly no longer available)!

Thanks for your assistance. Much appreciated!!

I did some research earlier today, and my conclusions correspond with yours. I am aware that LMS has a plug-in, so the implementation looks potentially viable, but well beyond my capabilities.

Let's hope Simon can resolve this!! If so, I'll jot only make a contribution, but increase the figure I had in mind. (And invest in a new Pi - the one I recently configured is for a close friend who is using one of my naim network players)

Yeah, I just got this reply from Bill:
"Unfortunately, though, FLAC doesn't work through a stream link. It requires software support at the receive end, so it only works on our web player & apps."

I don't have any plans to add support for this nonstandard protocol that is used by only one radio station. The BBC R3 case was different in that it uses a standard protocol (MPEG-DASH) which could be used by other stations as well, although I'm not aware of any that are using it at the present time. A number of stations are using Ogg as a container to deliver lossless FLAC and this is supported by MinimStreamer.

Understood, and thanks.

I did feel that RP must be doing something out-of-the-way ordinary.!!!

RE: Radio Paradise Lossless
Radio Paradise now has their flac version as a normal stream too!
http://stream.radioparadise.com/flac
Only drawback is that they can't provide metadata with it.

RE: Radio Paradise Lossless
Just saw this posted on another forum, urls for main stream as well as mellow stream:

For most of us it's best to use these:
Main Mix: http://stream.radioparadise.com/flac
Mellow Mix: http://stream.radioparadise.com/mellow-flac

However if your player doesn't like those, try:
Main Mix, London server: http://icy-4.radioparadise.com/flac
Mellow Mix, London server: http://icy-4.radioparadise.com/mellow-flac
or
Main Mix, London server: http://icy-5.radioparadise.com/flac
Mellow Mix, London server: http://icy-5.radioparadise.com/mellow-flac

Other servers: replace "icy-4"/"icy-5" with "icy-6" or "icy-8" in Texas, or "icy-7" in Virginia, per Bill's reply just received on the RP forum.

RE: Radio Paradise Lossless
I'm wondering if it's possible to configure MinimServer/MinimStreamer is such a way that I can listen to RP's flac stream directly/unconverted?

From what I found/understood about MinimStreamer it doesn't look that way?

I'm currently using a network-streamer that has NO internet-radio functionality and only LAN connected so I have to use MinimStreamer for internet-radio.

Regards, Louis.
