control point can't see MinimServer
Hi
I have recently (with Simon's help) updated minim server to 0.8.5.2 update 123.I now have a problem where the Naim App running on iPad Air does not find minim server. System details. - BT home hub 4. - Apple iMac (OS 10.13.6 (17G65), wired connection to router (via Netgear switch GS108). - Naim NAC 272, wired connection to router via Netgear switch GS108). - WD "mybooklive" running Twonky, (wired connection to router via Netgear switch GS108). The system worked well before updating minim server, the only changes have been a re-install of "ffmpeg" as previous version was deleted in error. I can't see any error messages in the minim server log:- [i]MinimServer 0.8.5.2 update 123, Copyright © 2012-2018 Simon Nash. All rights reserved. RE: control point can't see MinimServer
Exactly the same problem as Terry. The log does not report problems. The last three lines of the log are as follows:
[...] Scanning directory Beethoven, Schumann_ Prometeo, triplo concerto, sinfonia n.2 MinimServer[MacBookdiadmin2.station] is running Startup complete Still, my Naim network player cannot see Minim, and neither can VLC. The minim icon in the menu bar has white background. I have installed Plex to see what happens, and that works for both Naim and VLC on the same music library. Still, I would very much prefer a working Minim to Plex. Minim used to work fine until some time ago. Minim is running on a MacBook Pro, the library is on an external disk. My Java is the latest (10.0.2). |

RE: control point can't see MinimServer
To those who are having this problem: what version of the Naim app are you running? If the Naim app is running on an iPad, what version of iOS are you using?
VLC (on iPad) should be able to discover MinimServer but there is a VLC bug that prevents MinimServer from working correctly. See this bug ticket. |

RE: control point can't see MinimServer
I am using the latest Naim app, v.5.10 on both iPad and iPhone. The VLC that I was trying is running on the same Mac as Minim.

RE: control point can't see MinimServer
Please try VLC on the iPad and let me know whether it can find the MinimServer library.
Edit: Also, what version of iOS are you running on your iPad? |

Hi Simon iOS 11.4.1 on iPad. Both the iPad and the Naim N272 can find Twonky on the WD device, but neither can see Minim Server. Thanks Terry |

RE: control point can't see MinimServer
I installed VLC on my iPhone. It cannot see Minim.
This is a recent problem. I enjoyed Minim for years. |

RE: control point can't see MinimServer
I have tried the Naim app (version 5.10) and VLC (version 3.1.1) on an iPad Air 2 running iOS 11.4.1. Both these apps are able to see MinimServer and play music.
If MinimServer is scanning your library, it will not be discoverable by UPnP control points until scanning has completed. You can see when scanning has completed by looking at the MinimServer log or by checking the MinimServer status web page or by using MinimWatch. If you are sure that MinimServer is running and has completed scanning, the usual cause of this problem is a multicast discovery problem with your network. See this section for some suggestions. Multicast problems don't affect other network communication and might not always prevent discovery of other UPnP servers such as Twonky. It sometimes helps to power off all network devices and power them on again in this order: 1) The router (then wait 5 minutes) 2) Any switches or wireless access points (if you have them) 3) The NAS or other device running MinimServer (then wait 5 minutes) 4) The renderer (then wait 3 minutes) 5) The control point (iPad, iPhone, etc.) |

RE: control point can't see MinimServer
Hi Simon
Thanks for your suggestions. I tried restarting network devices and disabling 5GHz band on BT HomeHub but it still doesn't work. However I have found that when I enter the IP address for MinimSever in the web browser it does not find anything. I suspect (hope) the problem is with the way I've set up MinimServer (I'm not a computer whizz and have only relatively recently switched from a Windows PC to an iMac running OSX. What puzzles me is that the previous version worked faultlessly on the iMac. Thanks Terry |

RE: control point can't see MinimServer
The first step is always to confirm that MinimServer is running, for example by visiting the web page. Apologies that my previous post didn't make this sufficiently clear.
Assuming that you have installed MinimServer by following the instructions in this post, please do the following: 1) Power the iMac off and on 2) Double-click the MinimServer icon in the Applications folder Does this show a small minim icon (musical note) in the icon section at the right of the menu bar? If so, what colour is this icon and what message does it show when you mouse over it? |
