Minimserver thinks I have the wrong Java
Minimserver was running fine last night on my Synology DS213 with the most recent DSM update as of two days ago.

This morning there was an upgrade to Minim version 105, which may or may not be relevant to the problem I am now experiencing.

Minimserver refuses to start. The log on the Synology says "JDK is not supported; please download and install Oracle Java." A long time ago I installed Java from the Oracle site and it is still running today (version 1.7) according to the Synology package center.

Any ideas why Minimserver thinks that I have the wrong version of Java? How should I fix this?

RE: Minimserver thinks I have the wrong Java
Thanks for letting me know about this. It is caused by a problem in MinimServer update 105. MinimServer should accept Java 7 or Java 8 but because of the problem it is only accepting Java 8. I presume you are still on Java 7.

I have released update 106 to fix this problem with not accepting Java 7 but you won't be able to install update 106 because at present you are not able to start MinimServer.

This isn't quite "catch 22" because there is a solution. You need to update your Java installation to Oracle Java 8 and this will enable you to start MinimServer. When MinimServer starts, it will automatically install update 106.

My apologies for the inconvenience caused.

RE: Minimserver thinks I have the wrong Java
Thanks, Simon. I will get Java 8 later today and let you know if I have any problems.

FYI: In the Synology package center section for my Java app, in big bold type it says "Java SE Embedded 7" but the actual number, in smaller type below, is given as 1.7.0 plus other digits (specific build, I suppose). So it wasn't an error when I typed '1.7.'

RE: Minimserver thinks I have the wrong Java
Java 7 and 1.7 are the same thing (also Java 8 and 1.8). This is historical and has been changed in Java 9.
