Latest Melco firmware allows Twonky switch off
Hi Minimpeople.....
The latest Melco firmware, 3.70 is now available.
I have been running a beta for some time:
No issues, sounds to my ears even better.

I know there are a number of changes. The most important to us is that it is now possible to switch Twonky on and off from the front panel controls of the Melco. We no longer have to use Simon's cunning work-around. And easy to switch back on.
Again, to my ears, the sound is better with Twonky switched off.

Installation was easy. I found no issues.

see download here if you want to keep a copy

Hi Whoof
You may be right about only in the beta version.
But I do know a further proper version with it in is immanent.
Sorry if I have misled you. But hang on......

RE: Latest Melco firmware allows Twonky switch off
Sorry for my previous over-enthusiasm.
I note from the site
http://forum1613.minimserver.com/newreply.php?tid=4194

that firmware 3.71B has been made generally available as a beta.
it works fine on my N1/A. I use it in conventional mode (i.e. ethernet connections).
It is possible to switch off Twonky from the front panel:
Settings/Media Server/Twonky Service/Off-On

Hope this helps and sorry for jumping the gun a bit.
I suppose usual caveats apply with beta software.

I thought the off switch for Twonky was in 3.70 as well as the 3.71B beta but I can't confirm this at the moment.

RE: Latest Melco firmware allows Twonky switch off
Yes, Simon, I thought it did, but Whoof gave me doubts - by the time he posted I had moved on to 3.71B.
Don't really want to go back - going to older versions tends to lose Minimserver in my experience.
The 3.71B definitely has the feature accessible as I described.
So as that is now available on line I suggest anyone interested just go for 3.71. It seems to work fine with my system.

Sad RE: Latest Melco firmware allows Twonky switch off
I've downloaded the beta firmware from the Melco site, unzipped it, but then the files revealed don't include the updater.bin file as mentioned in the Melco update instructions. I've tried inserting a USB with the files downloaded, including an unzipped version, but the Melco doesn't recognise them. Grateful for any help please! Is it because I've downloaded on a Mac?

I have downloaded the beta firmware to an iPad and it shows the updater.bin file.

So, I’m afraid I can only state the obvious and that is to check your download process. Clearly, without the updater.bin you cannot progress.

RE: Latest Melco firmware allows Twonky switch off
The Melco 3.71B download is a file named audionas_ha_n1_updater.bin. When I use Safari on my Mac to download this file, I get a file of this name with size 65.7 MB in my Downloads folder. Is this what you are seeing, or do you see something else?

RE: Latest Melco firmware allows Twonky switch off
Hi folks, thanks for the help. Simon, yes, that's the file. I've tried various things now - unzipping it as per the instructions - "Extract the downloaded file and copy “audionas_ha_n1_updater.bin” file from the extracted folder to the USB device (root directory), even though this file's not there when you extract - just copying it over as is, reformatting the USB stick (it's in FAT 32). The Melco sees this when you plug it into the USB 3 port as directed, but then it'll report update not found (Error 401). I'm wondering, although it doesn't seem to specify this anywhere I can see, whether it's specifically for the N1-a & not for the Z.
