Why? Regardless of what software I'm using at the moment, I am more comfortable with filenames that have no questionable (even if technically legal) characters in them. And for classical music downloads, filenames are sometimes ridiculously long and I like to simplify them.

With the current situation, new users who encounter this problem will assume it's a bug in MinimServer because other media servers work without any file renaming, but MinimServer doesn't work. I can write any number of forum posts explaining that it's someone else's bug, but I'd ideally prefer to avoid this situation (assuming that it's not too much work and doesn't cause other problems or extra complexity).

When I get a bit of time, I'm going to prototype something and see how well it works. This will help me decide whether I think it should be incorporated into MinimServer.

I volunteer to be on the beta-test team, if you have one.

RE: Apostrophes in the title
Using Flash Renamer, a Windows program, I replaced all apostrophes with exclamation points. If the problem is ever solved I will change them back. As I add new albums, I do that as part of my file formatting procedure. All I will be left with is some files with ' instead of !, which won't be too numerous or too unsightly.

My problem is gapless playback. Yes, starting at any track in the album and playing gaplessly to the end if I request that. And displaying the correct track information at any time. Just like in Squeezebox and iPod Touch. Will I live long enough? It's been two years without. Somehow, a music server and PS Audio PWD Bridge have got to do that. Or maybe they won't. But that's another topic. Sorry.

Of course, most users would be able to do that. I have thought of it. But what other characters need to be changed? Ampersands? Plus signs? dashes? Quotation marks? So the problem is ill-defined from this user's point of view. I would guess that the answer is better expressed as an allowable character set, which then requires finding and changing everything not in that set. Not terribly difficult with some renaming program that uses regular expressions, but not the sort of thing many casual users will be comfortable with.

Mine, too, but in the interests of keeping this Forum about Minim, I'll just say, as a fellow PWD owner, I feel your pain.

RE: Apostrophes in the title
I've got a test build that should fix the problems caused by the PWD/Bridge handling some special characters incorrectly. If anyone would like to try this, please send me a PM saying whch platform you are using to run MinimServer.

Thanks! I would like to try it out. I am running MinimServer on Windows XP SP3.

I think lots of PWD owners would like to try it. (Could you please make a QNAP package, please? ;-) )

This change will be in the next public release. I'm making the current test build available privately to a small number of people who are willing to help with testing. If you'd like to help test this code, please PM me with details of which QNAP you have (ARM or x86).

RE: Apostrophes in the title
Hi,
I have recently discovered MinimServer with PsAudio Forum.
I tried it with my PS Audio Perfectwave DAC II (With the Bridge) and my NAS Qnap 219PII (Arm).
MinimServer is a very nice solution! It works very well; But I have also the bug with special symbols (apostrophes…)
Could you give us an idea of the date for the release of this next version?
I would like to definitively adopt Minimserver as the best solution for my configuration.
Thanks and Regards
Eric
