Complete rescan on startup
Hi Simon,

the mimimserver 0.63 is running on a 64bit Linux host.
Each time I started minimserver, I got hundreds of this messages:

Warning: ignoring tag > 20000 characters GRAPHIC_FRONT_COVER+=FFD8FFE000104A46494... in file ABC/Example.flac

It seems that the minimserver.contentdir will be rescaned completly ervery startup.
The process takes about 5 minutes.

Do you have any idea ?

Best Regards
Michael

You should remove all these GRAPHIC_FRONT_COVER+ tags from your files. A tool like Mp3tag can do this as a batch operation. These tags are obsolete and redundant, and your files will be displayed and played correctly without them. After you have removed these tags, you won't get any rescans for these files.

Hi Simon,

thank you very much !!

It works, I changed the tags under linux with puddletag,
a very powerfull tag-editor. There are still some conflicts
with the tag ALBUM ARTIST, but the starttime of minimserver
is drastically reduced to some seconds.

Warning: conflicting ALBUM ARTIST values ignored for file DEF/David Sylvian/2005 - Snow Borne Sorrow/01 - Wonderful World.flac
first conflicting value: David Sylvian
second conflicting value: Nine Horses

Best Regards
Michael

This message is telling you that you have two different ALBUM ARTIST values for this file. MinimServer doesn't know which of these you want, so it ignores both of them.

If an album has multiple artists, you can use the ARTIST tag for this instead of ALBUM ARTIST. The ALBUM ARTIST tag is limited to a single value for each album.

I removed the tag ALBUM ARTIST OR ALBUMARTIST completly, but
the log continuesly told me:

Warning: conflicting ALBUM ARTIST values ignored for file DEF/David Sylvian/2005 - Snow Borne Sorrow/09 - The Librarian.flac
first conflicting value: David Sylvian
second conflicting value: Nine Horses

I verified the tags with other tools, they are no longer inside
the flac-files.

Best Regards
Michael

There are two versions of this tag: ALBUMARTIST and ALBUM ARTIST. I think you have removed ALBUMARTIST tags but not ALBUM ARTIST tags.

Mp3tag shows the ALBUMARTIST tag as "Album Artist" and it shows the ALBUM ARTIST tag as "Album-Artist" (very confusing). To see ALBUM ARTIST tags in Mp3tag, you need to enable the "Album-Artist" tag by checking the box for this under "View/Customize columns". When you have done this, you will be able to see and remove your ALBUM ARTIST tags.

If you're using a different tagging program, it will probably have a different procedure for enabling and removing ALBUM ARTIST tags.

RE: Complete rescan on startup
There are no more tags like ALBUMARTIST ord ALBUM ARTIST inside the flacs.
I just scanned them with a hexeditor and several other programms, that are
able to edit meta-data.
All the other used tags are detectable.

Best Regards
Michael

Hi Simon,

after deleting the mcache files in the data-dir
the minimserver rebuilds these files.
Now the messages with ARTIST ALBUM are vanished.

Thank you very much for your engagement and this
wonderful software.

I wish you a Happy New Year
Michael

Hi Michael,
Thanks for letting me know about this.

This seems like a problem with MinimServer. When it starts, it checks all files to see if they have changed and it rebuilds the cache as necessary. MinimServer detects file changes by looking at the file's timestamp and length. From what you've said about this, it seems that your tagging program isn't changing the file's timestamp or length when it deletes a tag entry, so MinimServer thinks the file has not changed. Which tagging program did you use to delete the ALBUM ARTIST tags?

Best regards and Happy New Year!
Simon

RE: Complete rescan on startup
Hi Simon,

your are right. I use puddletag, a very powerful tag-editor under linux.
You can configure to preserve file modification times. I'll change this
option, so timestamp will be updated when changing the tags.

Beste Regards
Michael
