ffmpeg
I am SO frustrated. I really want to be able to play my DSF files. But my DAC will not read dopwav. Otherwise dsf:dopwav would be the answer! I understand minimstreamer will convert dsf to wav24 on the fly if I install ffmpeg but I just cannot get my head around it. Can anybody kindly walk me through it?

RE: ffmpeg
Are you running MinimServer on a Melco N1? If so, you will not be able to do this at present because the Melco N1 firmware does not include ffmpeg. You could build ffmpeg yourself (see this tutorial) and install it on the N1 but this requires software skills and a Linux system.

Thanks Simon. This confirms my fears that at present, my DSF files (of which I have many!) are unplayable on my system owing to my lack of technical ability! Oh well - darned digital revolution!

It might be worth contacting Melco and asking if they would consider adding ffmpeg to a future firmware release.

Have spoken to Melco. His opinion is that ffmpeg is not perfect and there is some audio criticism as well as some technical shortcomings.

RE: ffmpeg
You could do an offline conversion from DSF to a suitable PCM format. This should produce better results than using ffmpeg to convert in real time.

how does one do that and does it invert to a PCM at higher quality than 16/44.1?

RE: ffmpeg
There are a number of converters you can use to do this. See this article for a comparison of many of these. According to the article, they can all convert to at least 24/96.
