.dff/.dsf/.ape/dts questions.

Dear Forum members hereby my first thread. Thanks to Simon for all the great work and also to all Forum contributors. Very much appriciated! I am really no wizzkid. I have MinimServer (0.8 update95) running on DS115j Synology ethernet connected to Pioneer SC LX-87 which is in same network as my LG tv with WebIOS mediaplayer. Works great with gui on my screen but:
1. don't get .dsf (doesn't start) and.dff (starts but hardly any sound) to play. Settings: flac:L16/L24/wav/wav24/wav16, alac:L16/L24/wav/wav24/wav16, mp3:L16/L24/wav/wav24/wav16, aac:L16/L24/wav/wav24/wav16, dsf:L16/L24/wav/wav24/wav16/dopwav, dff:dopwav, mp4:L16/L24/wav/wav24/wav16, *:L16/L24/wav/wav24/wav16,dff(64):dopwav, dff(128):dopwav, dsf(64):wav24, dsf(128):wav24. Any suggestions?
2. Is there a way to transcode .ape?
3. DTS is just 2 channel while with synology server it is in 5.1. Any MinimServer suggestions here?

You've got

dsf:wav24

but I think you need to specity a sample rate after wav24 (as the default sample rate is 384kHz)

For example I have

dsf:wav24;96

Worth a try....?

Also, I don't think ape is currently supported and you will only be able to output dopwav if your dac supports dsd...I think....

Thanks Gussy, answer much appriciated, .dsf now working:-)
Have now some buffering issues but guess has to do with only 512 mb work memory.

Your transcoding options are extremely complex with many redundant and duplicate settings. Although the current settings are working, it would be better to simplify these by eliminating multiple output types and overlapping input types. This will make it much easier for you to adjust your settings in future as needed.

I suggest you use a single transcoding output type such as wav24. For input types, you should just use plain dsf and dff instead of also listing (64) and (128) for these. These two changes would give you the following:

flac:wav24, alac:wav24, mp3:wav24, aac:wav24, dsf:wav24;96, dff:dopwav, mp4:wav24, *:wav24

The buffering is not related to memory as 512 MB is more than enough to run MinimServer. It is probably related to the CPU in your NAS, which is very low-powered. You can confirm this by using Synology DSM Resource Monitor to view CPU usage while music is playing. If this hits 100%, it confirms that the CPU power is not sufficient to handle your transcoding settings.
