Minimserver doesn't find all music titels
Hy there,
We are using minimserver on our MELCO N1ZS
The problem is, that minimserver doesn't find all music titels. We have the newest minimserver version 3.11 installed on the MELCO. The missing music titels couldn't be found, even after several times rescan and restart over minimwatch. After looking in the log files, there are a lot of failure messages, but we didn't had any problems before when we used an other NAS system, or computer.
Many thanks for help,
Oliver

RE: Minimserver doesn't find all music titels
If the log message starts with 'Error:', this means the file has not been added to the library. If the log message starts with 'Warning:', this means the file has been added to the library. For the missing files, do you see 'Error:' messages?

If you do see 'Error:" messages for the missing files, please post some of these 'Error:' messages for a small number of the missing files.

Hi many thanks for your quick reply.
I see a lot of Warning and a lot of Error messages when looking at the log files and doing a rescan.

But here are a few Error messages:

RE: Minimserver doesn't find all music titels
It looks like there is some problem with the internal format of these WAV files. To find the exact cause, I would need to see one of these files. Can you upload one of the files to Dropbox or similar?

RE: Minimserver doesn't find all music titels
Thanks for uploading these two files. I have looked at both of them and I understand why MinimServer is reporting a format error.

A WAV file has a header followed by a number of chunks of different types. The header contains a form size which should match the total size of all the chunks in the file. For these two files, the form size is too small and MinimServer is finding that the chunks occupy more space than is specified by the form size. This is why both files are producing an error message about an incorrect format.

Because of the conflicting information, it isn't clear to MinimServer whether the form size is incorrect or the lengths of the chunks are incorrect, so MinimServer reports the problem to the user rather than making an arbitrary decision on whether the form size or the chunk lengths are correct.

There are programs that can correct format errors like this. On the Mac, you can use XLD to "convert" both these files from WAV to WAV and this will fix the problem. After installing XLD, select WAV as the output type and select the option to write tags as "Both" (INFO chunk and id3 chunk). You might also want to set the options that control where the output should be written.

If you have used other servers that don't report an error, this is because these servers are silently ignoring the format error and making an arbitrary decision about which item of conflicting information should take priority.

The warning message about the TXXX tag is a separate issue. In this case, MinimServer is able to ignore the incorrect tag and continue to read the other tags in the file. If you use XLD to convert this file, XLD fixes the TXXX problem as well as fixing the form size problem.

Many thank's for your feedback. Like you suggested, I downloaded the program and did the conversion. Now the music files work over the MinimServer. But the music files got all slightly smaller after conversion. Is that normal? For example one .wav music file was 56.836.813 Byte before the conversion and 56.596.220 Byte after the conversion. Of course I selected from .wav to .wav

RE: Minimserver doesn't find all music titels
The converter has probably deleted any incorrect tags and might have removed some padding from the file. If the converted files are working OK, you don't need to be concerned.
