Tracks Appearing Multiple Times

Hi Simon,

Recently I noticed weird issue. Just now I have had a chance to look at it more closely.

In general Minimserver works flawlessly. However a couple of weeks ago I wanted to put on all of Jennifer Warnes albums.

So, in Linn Kazoo, I typed "Warnes". Sure enough 4 albums were found. Opening Famous Blue Raincoat, showed the first two track repeated.

Searching for the album itself or simply browsing the Library does result in the same anomaly.

I have tried the same thing with different artists / albums and some have repeated tracks and some do not. I cannot find a consistent theme. I've looked at the Tags and can see nothing wrong.

I've also checked for duplicate tracks - but there are none (at least not like this).

I looked at URL for the tracks indicated in Kazoo and they are the same for each repeated track.

I'm suspecting a problem with minimserver, but it could always be Linn Kazoo.

Thoughts would be much appreciated.

Whenever I have seen this, it has always been caused by some duplicate files in another folder (perhaps the recycle bin or a backup folder) that is being scanned accidentally. The only thing that doesn't fit this theory is the URLs being identical. Are you sure there isn't any small difference between them?

It would be worth doing a full rescan to see if this makes a difference. To do this, set the startupScan property to 'full' and select Rescan from the minim icon.

I had done a search for copies, but could find none.

Just re-scanned as you suggest with the same result.

Checked the URLs - I can't see any difference.

I've just added the quotes so that it doesn't appear as a hyperlink!!

Checked the Recycle bin on the NAS - and although there are things in it, these files are not.

More Info.

In Kazoo I type "Warnes" in the search box.

Two folders appear - Tracks (40) or Artists (2).

If I select Tracks 40 Tracks are listed. Each one appears once.

If I select Artists, I get a choice of "Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes" or "Jennifer Warnes".

Selecting "Jennifer Warnes" gets me to 4 Albums if I select "Famous Blue Raincoat" I get a folder with 15 tracks, where two tracks are duplicated; it's a 13 track album). Alongside those 15 tracks is a folder marked "complete album". Selecting that gives me all THIRTEEN TRACKS - no duplicates!!

Think I'm going slightly mad! ;-)

Thanks for this very detailed description. What happens if you select "Famous Blue Raincoat" from the top-level list of albums without doing a search? Does it have 13 tracks or 15 tracks?

Are the duplicated tracks part of a playlist? It looks like MinimServer is incorrectly returning duplicate tracks from an artist search in this case.

The duplicated tracks appear in the library window, and if using the "Play now" or "play later" button beside the album cover all 15 tracks (13+2) are added to the playlist.

If the library window shows 13 tracks, only the 13 tracks are added to the playlist. If duplicates are shown, the duplicates are added. That is indeed how I first noticed it, when "First we take Manhatten" played twice!

This behaviour occurs with other albums too, and is not necessarily the first two tracks. Elton John's "Captain Fantastic" for example duplicates almost all tracks bar a couple!

Thanks for your time on this. It is not stopping me play music, so it's not vital that it's fixed, but it is mighty odd.

I think I might have cracked it!!

At least I think I have repeatable explanation of why, but not how.

All the duplicates appear in an m3u playlist.

I have for example a playlist of "Female vocalists" with a selection of tracks. Those tracks appear to be duplicated whenever a search is performed as described previously.

Why this should be the case I don't know.

Similarly I have an Elton John Playlist, and all the duplicates are my favourites and appear in that playlist. I have about 17 playlists, some of considerable length since they are designed to be my own home "radio show" that plays all the music I like all day.... As a result many albums would be affected in this way.
