Skipping album-level
Hello,
I'm in the process of refining my setting in MinimServer and I have a question: When browsing the indexTag for artist and selecting one, the next level is always the album-level (or the presentation of further selections, as I have set the listViewAlbum setting to 3). This is fine for artists with more than one album in the library, but I have a lot of artists with only one album or even only one / a couple of songs from one album. In this case, I would like to skip the album-level and go straight to the contents of the album. Is this possible in the current version of MinimServer? Best regards, Lakorus |

RE: Skipping album-level
If the selection contains only one or two tracks from a single album, MinimServer should take you directly to these tracks. If the selection is a single complete album, it isn't possible to skip the album and go directly to the tracks.

RE: Skipping album-level
Hello Simon, thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this behaviour. I am using BubbleUPNP as control point and tried different installations of MinimServer. Please find attached three screenshots as an example of what I do, maybe we were talking about different things. *Edit* wrong order of pictures, sorry! Best regards Lakorus |

RE: Skipping album-level
Hello Simon,
those are screenshots from BubbleUPNP on my smartphone (Galaxy S3). Let me explain what I did - I hope that I choose the correct terms: The first screenshot in the chronogical order is the middle one. On the library's entrance level I chose the indexTag "Interpret" (renamed from artist) and got a list of all my artists. There I clicked on "Rage against the machine", which took me to screen which is attached as third. It showed me that for the artist "Rage against the machine" there is only only album - the self-titled "Rage against the machine". Clicking on the album took me to the screen that I attached first: The album contains only one track: "Killing in the name". All the content is correct, but because of your first answer I would expect that the second screen (selection of album) is skipped! As I described in my opening post, this is reproducible and applies to all the artists with only one or two songs in the library. It would be nice if I could spare the unnecessary click on the album. I hope that you can work with this explanation, if you need more information, please ask! Best regards Lakorus |

The problem might be caused by having albums split across multiple folders. If your library is arranged in this way, you need to set the mergeFolderAlbums property to true and restart MinimServer. Please try this and let me know if it changes what you are seeing. |

RE: Skipping album-level
I just tried that, but toggling this setting didn't make a difference. I also tried a different control point, and it showed the same behaviour.
But I just saw that if I select an artist who has only one track that comes from an album with various artists, then the album-level is skipped and the song is shown, together with the ">>complete album" option. Maybe that helps? Do you have any more ideas? |

OK, this explains the problem. If the tracks of an album have different artists and there is no AlbumArtist tag, MinimServer isn't able to merge the album tracks into a single album and you will get the problem you are seeing. The fix is to populate the AlbumArtist tag for all such albums. |

RE: Skipping album-level
All files are fully tagged, including the Artist and AlbumArtist tag. I added AlbumArtist to the indexTags and - as expected - browsing through this tag shows a "Various Artists" tag value.
Still, my problem that I described in the opening post persists. Do you have any more ideas? :-( |

I don't understand this because it doesn't seem to match what you said in your previous post: I just saw that if I select an artist who has only one track that comes from an album with various artists, then the album-level is skipped and the song is shown, together with the ">>complete album" option. Maybe that helps? I took this as meaning that MinimServer is working correctly (skipping the album level) with albums that are tagged with different track artists and a single album artist "Various Artists". In you latest post, it seems that you are saying that MinimServer is not working correctly (not skipping the album level) with albums that are tagged with different track artists and a single album artist "Various Artists". Which of these is correct? |
