Add New Tag
Hi Group,

It seems as though I can add new tags to tracks, so if I add something like:

TXXX:TFOL

to a song file and populate it with words like Celtic, World or Protest Etc and then add :

TFOL:Folk Style to indexTags, things seem to work just fine, but I am wondering if just making up tags is such a good idea. Most likely I will re-purpose TIT2 and TIT3 but I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject.

TIA,

Greg

PS MinimServer is here to stay. Last week I was test driving some of my tweaks when my wife walked by and asked about specific movements in particular Mozart concertos. Bam, 5 seconds later we were enjoying said requests. That bought me a lot more computer play time so thanks again Simon.

The TXXX tag can be used for any tag name, so there is no need to use a cryptic name like TFOL. Instead, you can just use TXXX:Folk Style and add Folk Style to indexTags. Also, you can have any number of TXXX:name tag names and this is the recommended way to add custom tags to your library.

If you want to repurpose other ID3v2 tags, you should refer to these in MinimServer by using the tag names listed in the Tag mappings section (for example, Title for TIT2 and Subtitle for TIT3).

Glad to hear this!

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the info, I'm starting to experiment with your suggestions.
