Private complete tag database??
Is there a way to save all your complete tag data for your music so the tag data can be used to repopulate a reripped music file? As a backup.

If you happen to erase a folder of music files, most of the time you still have the CDs, so having a backup of your complete and finished tags would save a lot of time and work. If the ripper could access the tag data.

I tried searching, but couldn't find anything

The best protection is to back up your music files rather than just the metadata.

There are severe limitations in that software, it doesn't handle all tags. And no id3 tags... It seems.

Still, it had sort of a good attitude...

Which requires lots of space.

Actually, my take is that this metadata export and import should be a feature of good ripper software.

Export/import a tag set from/to music files.
Export/import tag data for that template

When you can buy a 3tb external drive, enough for well over 2000 albums, for around $100, backing up is still a good idea, even if you can export tags. Restoring a backup will be a lot easier than re-ripping all your discs and trying to reload metadata, let alone re-downloading any hi-res downloads you may have - assuming you don't have to buy them again.

Alright, point taken, especially as I have a bunch of 2TB disks lying around.

However, a private CDDB tag database would have more uses:

You could give it to a friend to help him/her over the first few hurdles.
If you get another version of an opus, like another conductor but everything else the same, reusing all the work you did for the first version would ease adding the new version to your library.

Can CDDB store any tags or is it limited in that respect?
