RE: DSD Playback
hi,
I am trying out DSD , but so far no luck. The file is DSD 5.6, control point Bubble from a QNAP drive to a Marantz NA11S1. This supposedly supports DSD, although from a USB socket. My QNAP is connected to it by Ethernet. I have installed Minimstreamer. I have changed the stream.transcode in properties to dsf:dopwav, dff:dopwav and Bubble shows WAV/352.8/24 bits, but the Marantz shows File Format Error. Where am I going wrong? will it only work on the USB input? Thanks in advance. |

RE: DSD Playback
I checked the online user manual and it seems clear that the NA-11S1 can only play DSD via a USB connection. You could contact Marantz to confirm.

RE: DSD Playback
Hi:
New to this forum so hope I did this correctly. Borrowed a Lumin D2 from the local audio shop. Initially tried JRiver as the server from my Windows 10 computer, but the playlists were limited in size and some cover art was wrong. Towards the end of the loaner session I installed Minim on the Windows computer and found it to be more stable. My DSD questilon involves two different Lumin players: The D2 which is capable of DSD64 and DSD128 and the T1 which is only capable of DSD64. If I were to purchase a T1 whould it be possible to transcode DSD 128 to DSD 64 or do I need to transcode DSD 128 to wav:352? Also as I recall the Lumin did play DSD files without the dop transcode so I assume it is capable of native DSD??? Did not have the D2 long enough to really test Minim. Thanks. Rich |

RE: DSD Playback
MinimServer/MinimStreamer can't transcode DSD128 to DSD64, so you would need to transcode this to WAV (.dsf files only). There might be some loss in sound quality when you do this, so it would be a good idea to have a listening test before you purchase.

Simon: To be more specific; Would the statement be? dsf128:WAV24;352 Would not want to convert the dsf64 tracks. Thanks. Rich |

RE: DSD Playback
For the LUMIN T1, you should use:
dsf(128):wav This converts DSF128 files to WAV 32-bit 352.8 kHz. The LUMIN T1 can handle 32-bit WAV files, so this is better that transcoding to 24-bit. |

RE: DSD Playback
Simon:
Your suggestion to use dsf(128):wav worked for players incapable of double DSD. I do know the "ditty" about the word "assume", but anyway... I assume the same will work for quad dsd entered as dsf(256):wav? Thanks. Rich |

RE: DSD Playback
At present, only dsf(64) and dsf(128) are supported (see this section). I will look into the possibility of supporting dsf(256) as well.
