Grey icon and log shows download error
I have not used MinimServer before.

I have 64 bit Windows 8.1, and I want to run MinimServer on this computer for convenience, although my music is on a Buffalo Terastation NAS. I assume that is a practical setup.

I installed 32 bit and 64 bit Java, then I installed 64 bit MinimServer. But the tray icon is grey. I have not been prompted to enter my music folder yet.

If I set the log file output to Debug, I see an error, which repeats endlessly:

Looks like it is trying to automatically update to Update 53, but this is failing.

By the way, there is no "C:\Program Files\MinimServer\libext" folder on my computer. I do, however, have a "C:\Program Files\MinimServer\lib" folder.

Any ideas?

RE: Grey icon and log shows download error
Perhaps do a manual fresh install of the latest version, so minimserver does not have a newer version to auto update?

Thanks for reporting this problem. I tried doing a clean install on Windows 8.1 and I got the same problem. I will produce a fix as soon as I can.

As a workaround, you can use Task Manager to stop the Java process that is running MinimServer and then manually create the folder:

C:\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming\MinimServer\libext

using Windows Explorer. The C:\Users\your-user-name\AppData folder is hidden in Explorer, so you need to type its full name into the Explorer address bar.

Alternatively, you can type the command:

mkdir %APPDATA%\MinimServer\libext

from a command prompt.

After creating this folder, launch MinimServer from its desktop icon. You won't need to create the libext folder again because it is preserved when installing updates or new releases.

You will find the library scan function of MinimServer quite slow when you are accessing a library on a network drive. It's better to either use a USB-attached drive or run MinimServer on the NAS that you use to store your music library. This isn't completely straightforward with a Buffalo NAS because you would need to use Linux commands to install the generic Linux version of MinimServer on the NAS.

RE: Grey icon and log shows download error
That worked - thanks - I now have a yellow icon and I was prompted for my music folder. I'll leave it to scan while I go and pour some sherry Smile. Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas! I'm glad this fixed the problem.

I have replaced the MinimServer and MinimWatch 0.8.3 downloads for Windows with 0.8.3a versions that contain a fix for this problem. With the 0.8.3a downloads, there is no need to create the libext folder manually.
