RE: Melco Audiophile NAS
Thanks for sharing this. This is similar to the improvement I have experienced. In my case, the optical link is between the server and the S100. I don't know what would be the effect of having both links as optical.

I live in the United States and have been trying to find a dealer (whether in or outside the US) that carries the Melco OP-100. Any specific recommendations would be much appreciated.

This is the USA dealer list from Melco’s website.

I wonder how current and accurate that USA dealer list actually is? The first two dealers on the list do not seem to sell Melco (at least not according to their websites).

By contrast, Care Audio, based in Edison, New Jersey, is NOT on the list, but Care Audio's website states that Care Audio is a Melco dealer:

https://care-audio.com/brands

Disclosure: I bought my Melco N1Z Mk. I from Sunil at Care Audio several years ago. It was a positive/successful transaction. YMMV.

Melco HA-N1ZH60 Mk1 (MinimServer 2) --> network --> AURALiC ARIES G2 --> Lightning Link (WWPS7 hdmi) --> AURALiC VEGA G2 with AURALiC LEO GX Master Clock --> XLR --> Mark Levinson No. 326S --> RCA --> JL Audio E-Sub e110 (active crossover @ 100 Hz) --> RCA --> Bryston 4B3 (Cubed) --> Magnepan .7

RE: Melco Audiophile NAS
Melco BACKUP - I have religiously made a back-up of my Melco N1A drives to an external 6Tb Buffalo drive. When it was full with incremental backups I reformatted and went again - no problems. I swear at some time in the past I have mounted the backup drive on my Mac desktop and seen individual files - however...I use Mac OS Catalina and NTFS for Mac. Recently I mounted the Melco backup drive only to find an Untitled partition and no files, no nothing. Works fine as a backup drive with the Melco. My question is this. Has Melco changed it backup strategy in later versions of its firmware? Does that mean I now have a compressed backup in a proprietary format rather than individual files? I presumed I was keeping a copy of my music library that could be restored as FLAC files to any other place - seems not.

I tried doing a backup today with a Melco backup drive that was formatted as NTFS a few years ago. When I attach the drive to a Windows PC, the backed up files are visible as regular individual files.

That's really helpful simon as it suggests I have an issue with NTFS for Mac and have not got stick down a 'proprietary backup' rabbit hole!
