Error: unexpected end of file at offset....
Hi all, Newbie here. I thought this might relate to tagging, if not please move it appropriately.
Despite all the misguided comments in other places that Minimserver is hard to set up, I followed Simon's guides and had it working & running in an hour. Great stuff.
Minimserver is running on a QNAP TS-412 and will be connecting to a coming Lumin, replacing a Mac. In the meantime, it's a library in JRiver. I have some expected tagging issues but those I can sort, I hope, but the main issue I need help on is 3500 missing files. Several thousand of these appear as 'Error: unexpected end of file at offset XXXXXXX' in the Minimwatch log. Most are .flac, some are .aiff. I can solve the problem of missing .aiff by converting them to .flac but it will take weeks.
A search didn't throw anything up. Grateful for any help on this.

Welcome to the MinimServer forum!

Please see this post (and other discussion on the same thread) for the likely cause of the problem and a solution.

The "unexpected end of file" problem with missing files isn't related to tagging, so I am moving this thread to the Support section.

Can you post a few (about 10) of these messages for .flac files and a few (about 10) of these messages for .aiff files?

RE: Error: unexpected end of file at offset....
Thanks for the quick response, Simon. It wasn't the answer I wanted because the conversion will take a very long time. I thought that JRiver, which I've been on since MC17 in Win & Mac was my salvation after iTunes & PureMusic. How wrong could I have been? Grrr. Here's 10 random selections of .aiff from different albums.

Error: unexpected end of file at offset 47222035 in file Steve Baughman/Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar Vol. 2 - The Blarney Pilgrim/2-05 Fanny Power.aiff (length 47222035)
Error: unexpected end of file at offset 37385039 in file Eternal Jazz Project/Seasons/08 Don't Talk to me in the Morning.aiff (length 37385039)

Error: unexpected end of file at offset 21631038 in file Richard Wagner/Siegfried Disc 2/2-01 Aufzug 1 Szene 2 - Nach eitlen Fernen forschest du (Wanderer).aiff (length 21631038)
Error: unexpected end of file at offset 41883385 in file Vaughan Williams Collector's Edition disc 19 - Sacred Choral Music/19-02 Mass in G minor_ Kyrie.aiff (length 41883385)

I was wrong, now I look I have a host of .flac issues but NONE of them are 'unexpected end of file...' issues, they relate to TYER, playlist & ALBUMARTIST etc etc. 3000-odd error & warning messages is quite a shock.
Can anyone tell me, is it quicker to convert .aiff to .aiff than .aiff to flac? I tried a couple of albums to .flac and it was slow on dBpoweramp on Win8 but I was doing over the network on the NAS. Having been burned with this Jriver/.aiff, I feel like standardising on .flac. I guess it's quicker if the file is local (on a HDD). The quickest converter is? I have both Win & Mac decent spec machines.
Thanks
Martin

From these messages, it looks like the problem is caused by the JRiver .aiff bug.

I can't say which converter is the quickest but I know dBpoweramp is quick.

RE: Error: unexpected end of file at offset....
I use XLD (free) on my Mac and it is pretty fast. I have the settings to automatically put replace the files in the same folder so that helps a bit. Sometimes they are .aif not .aiff (one, not two "f"s) so I have to manually delete the original files. I have no idea about the speed of the two formats...I only used .aiff

Thanks Simon & John. This is is a first-rate forum. I'll first make a new JRiver trial playlist filtered for 50 .aif & .aiff, then make a comparison. Picked up the Lumin yesterday, so the pressure's on.
