Minim, Synology & iPad

Minim, Synology & iPad
Hallo!
I'm new here and I already have a question Blush
My music collection is stored on a Synology NAS (DS 112) and I listen to it using an iPad streaming through the DS Audio App. Today I installed MinimServer on my Synology. Everything worked fine except that Minim doesn't appear on the DS App of my iPad. In other words I can't chose the server, since the only one which DS Audio finds is the usual DiskStation Server. Is there a solution for that or should I install a different Player on my iPad able to communicate with Minim? If so which one?
Thanks!!
Marco

Welcome to the MinimServer forum!

DS Audio isn't a UPnP control point, so you can't use it to access a UPnP server such as MinimServer. I have tried the following iPad UPnP control point apps that work with MinimServer and can play music on the iPad:

8player lite
mconnect player free
AirAV

I would be interested to hear about any other recommendations.

RE: Minim, Synology & iPad
Thank You for the very fast answer!
Well, I downloaded 8player lite and mcconnect Free. Here are my thoughts:
8Player Lite: Basic problem: It sorts the tracks alphabetically and not by Track Number. Reportedly it depends on Minim, which does't support the Track-Number-Tag. Is it true?? Anyway I haven't tested it any further so I can't tell how it works.
McConnect Free: It would work fine. It was a joy to see how fast it finds items, albums, artists, genres…no matter how big the collection. BUT, and here is the reason why I will not use it, it DOESN'T PLAY GAPLESS!! SadSadSad and since I listen to much classical music this is a very big problem.

Do you have any more suggestion? McConnect would be so nice if it wasn't for the missing gapless playing!

Thanks!!

You need to change the Sorting setting in 8player Lite from Auto to No Sorting. This preserves the (correct) sort order that MinimServer is sending to the control point.

I haven't tried any others. There is an app named Neutron that claims to support gapless. I haven't tried it myself.

RE: Minim, Synology & iPad
PlugPlayer works, it will connect to mnimserver on synology and play back directly on the ipad.

Thank you Anton,
And does it play gapless? It has though only negative critics from customers…can you confirm them?

Sorry, I can't confirm gapless. I don't use it very often since I primarily use MinimServer with Linn DS devices and therefore usually use other control points (Lumin, Kazoo). I use PlugPlayer rarely if I want to stream directly to iPad but haven't run into any issues and haven't tried for anything gapless.
Minimserver is far and away the best server out there, but unfortunately the control points that work with it are not always. The best control points I've found are Ipeng and Squeezepad for Squeezebox devices, which work brilliantly for playback on an iPad, but unfortunately only work with the Logitech Media Server, which is ok but not nearly as flexible as Minimserver.
