How do I do this?
Hi Simon,

I posted on the Linn forum earlier and have since spent some time looking on here to see if I can find the way to achieve what I am after but I am still struggling a little. I hadn't realised the power of Minimserver re tagging prior to today. Please bear with the longer post but I hoped more info would reduce any toing and froing.

I use minimserver on a QNAP TS421 and mostly use Kinsky to control it.

As my 24 bit collection grows I am finding that I want often sit down for a session to select something from that subset but it's obviously distributed across the artists/albums.

What I would like to do is 'intelligently browse' in this order:

Sample size
i.e. choose from 16 or 24

Sample rate
i.e. choose from the range 44, 96, 192 or whatever they are

Artist

Album

Track

Questions:

1 - can this be achieved with minimserver and if so how?
2 - do I have to add a new tag or edit existing ones?

Note I use DB poweramp and so it looks like all of my audio quality tags are set to perfect (lossless)
I can't see anything re audio data in the ID tag but I can see sample rate and sample size on the audio properties tab.

Sorry for my naivety on this.

Thanks for a great server!!!

Welcome to the MinimServer forum!

You can do this except that the first two browsing steps would be combined. The "special tag" #AudioData shows you the bit depth and sample rate as a single value such as 16/44100 or 24/192000. To see a browse menu choice for this, you need to add #AudioData to the indexTags property and restart MinimServer. The #AudioData information is taken from the audio data within the file and doesn't use the file's tags.

If you want to see the "audio data" menu choice as something other than #AudioData, you can rename it by changing the #AudioData indexTags setting to:

#AudioData:some other name

where "some other name" is the name you want to see for the menu choice.

Welcome to the MinimServer forum!

.........

Wow, Wow and Wow again.

Talk about a speedy response. Within an hour of posting my question, I didn't just have an answer but I had implemented and was using it for the first time!

Truly wonderful stuff.

Many thanks. Smile

You can do this except that the first two browsing steps would be combined. The "special tag" #AudioData shows you the bit depth and sample rate as a single value such as 16/44100 or 24/192000. #AudioData:some other name

where "some other name" is the name you want to see for the menu choice.
I did not realise this was possible with MinimServer and created my own index tag "Resolution".
This also works fine but it takes some effort.
Doing it the MinimServer way saves me a lot of "retagging time"
I have attempted to rename #AudioData to an other name (it shows #AudioDate on the controlpoint but I do not like the # shown) but could not find out how to do this.
I did try to make an alias Tag (#AudioData:Resolution for instance) but MinimServer did not restart (syntax error).
How are you supposed to rename?

Peter

RE: How do I do this?
In indexTags, where you have #AudioData, change it to #AudioData:new name

#Audio:Audio Data in indexTags did the trick, no # anymore.
Thanks,

Thanks,

MinimServer uses the # prefix for these special tags because it is possible that some users might have a custom tag named AudioData.
