Album displayed as 8 albums
I loaded a double cd onto my QNAP drive, I use a Linn DS system.

If I use Minim server and either Kinsky or Kazoo the 1st album in the set appears as 7 smaller albums and the original album. The 2nd album appears as one album.

If I switch to Twonky on my server, the set appears as two albums, CD1 and CD2 in the set.

If I go back to Minim server the problem reappears.

I have had a look at music tags and cannot see anything different between the two albums.

I have restarted the drive and also rescanned it in Minim server.

Any suggestions?

Do the "7 smaller albums" have the same contents as "the original album" (see red highlights above)? Can you describe what you are seeing in more detail or post some screenshots?

Have the tracks from the first CD been ripped to a single folder or to multiple folders?

Do the tracks from the first CD all have the same Artist tag(s) or do different tracks have different Artist tag(s)?

Does either or both of the CDs have an AlbumArtist tag?

RE: Album displayed as 8 albums

This is with minimserver and

This was with twonky

The first cd is classical, it has 29 tracks and seems to be grouped by concerto.

7 of the albums are parts of cd1, there is a full copy of cd1 and cd2 as well. There are only 6 concertos on cd1 so there should only be 6 albums with one concerto each, but there are two copies of the first concerto.

Album Artist and Artist tag is "Corelli" for all tracks on both cds.

I did not rip the cds and I think they were ripped into separate subfolders.

I think it is likely that there are multiple copies of some of the tracks from CD1 in different folders.

To confirm this, you can set mergeFolderAlbums to true and restart MinimServer. You should now see a single album for CD1 with multiple copies of some of the tracks.

Have you looked inside CD1 on Twonky to see if some of the tracks occur multiple times?

No multiple tracks on CD1 on Twonky

I am running minimserver on my qnap drive. I have looked for properties or another control setting but cannot seem to find one.

The control screen I see is as below:

To view and change MinimServer properties, you need to install MinimWatch on another computer on your network.

RE: Album displayed as 8 albums
Thank you, I think I have got most of it fixed.

I had installed minim watch but had never managed to get it to do anything and assumed it was an update reminder.

I have reinstalled minim watch and stated the "true" under "merge folder albums"

Rescaned the drive and presto! 2 albums, each with the right number of tracks. Interestingly my album count has gone from 613 to 574.

There are now two or three of each track on the albums. Is there another setting to fix this? I can only find location for the files on the qnap drive.

I have learned more about running a HDD digital system.

This means you have multiple copies of these tracks in your library. The only way to fix it is to find the location of the duplicate unwanted tracks. When you have found this, you can either delete the unwanted duplicates or you can change the contentDir setting in MinimWatch to exclude the location of the unwanted duplicates from library scanning.

The duplicate tracks might be in some backup folder or recycle bin. As these duplicates are not showing in Twonky, your content directory setting for Twonky is probably different from your content directory setting for MinimServer. Can you check these settings and compare them? After you have found the difference, you should change the content directory setting for MinimServer to match the Twonky setting and then do a MinimServer rescan.

The album count will reduce if tracks from different folders are merged into a single album.

RE: Album displayed as 8 albums
I have found a folder "@recycle" which is in the multimedia folder of the qnap drive, next to flac, high res and studio master folders.

There were another 2 copies of the CD1 and also 1 copy of CD2. deleted these and the CDs or albums now displayed with a "modified or deleted item. Rescanned with minim watch and those notices all went away, leaving the correct number of albums.

On further looking the "@recycle" album seems to contain bits and pieces, and nothing useful. Do you know if this folder has a use? There are another 20 items which i can check but after that I was thinnking of deleting the folder.

How do I find the content directory setting?

It sounds like this folder is the QNAP recycle bin containing files that you have deleted. It is included in the MinimServer library because the contentDir property is set to /share/Multimedia. You can see this setting by selecting Properties from the minim icon (in MinimWatch) and looking for the field named contentDir.

Deleting the folder won't solve the problem because the QNAP firmware will create it again the next time you delete something. You could disable the recycle bin to prevent this from happening.

If you prefer to keep the @recycle folder and you want to exclude it from your MinimServer library, you have two options:

1) Change your contentDir setting from the single /share/Multimedia folder to the three folders that you use for flac, high res and studio master files. For example, these folders might be /share/Multimedia/flac, /share/Multimedia/highres and /share/Multimedia/studiomaster.

2) Create a single folder (e.g., music) under the Multimedia folder, then move your flac, high res and studio master folders under the music folder, then change the MinimServer contentDir setting from /share/Multimedia to /share/Multimedia/music.
