Downloading Java problem with Synology DS212j NAS
Looking to try out Minimserver in order to transcode FLAC music files to WAV on the fly.
I have followed the tutorial but at point 2 (Downloading Java) I do not get the error message showing me the file to download. Instead I get this: Any clues as to what is going wrong? Thanks |

RE: Downloading Java problem with Synology DS212j NAS
Thanks Simon
However the post states... The correct file should be: (for Java 7) ejre-7u71-fcs-b14-linux-arm-sflt-headless-26_sep_2014.tar.gz (for Java 8) ejdk-8u6-fcs-b23-linux-arm-sflt-12_jun_2014.tar.gz Don't install Java 6; MinimServer won't be supporting this for much longer. ...what am I meant to do with the file (Java 8 I assume?) |

RE: Downloading Java problem with Synology DS212j NAS
Thanks again Simon. It's getting late and I'm not the most tech savvy with these things so will try again tomorrow. I've looking to try an alternative to Logitech Media Server and Synology Media Server.

RE: Downloading Java problem with Synology DS212j NAS
Hi, I am using Synology 212j, I keep getting the same error as the first post by paul44 birch. I have created a public shared folder and uploaded the correct unzipped file. Have tried using different browsers, Firefox, Internet Explorer 11 and Chrome. Any clue to overcome this hurdle? Thanks

Thanks Did you name the shared folder 'public'? This exact name is required. The file should not be unzipped. It should be uploaded to the NAS in its original zipped format. |

My mistake was to name it "public folder" instead of "public". Thanks Paul for the tip.

RE: Downloading Java problem with Synology DS212j NAS
I'm trying to update Java on my PPC Synology NAS (213+). I can't manage it whatsoever. It always gives me the "digital copy not signed" or whatever that message is. Yes, I was signed in when I downloaded it. Yes, I unclicked "safe file" in Safari before I downloaded it. I've followed the same instructions I used to load it original Java edition. Totally frustrated here...
Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks, John P.S. Why is it so impossibly hard to update Java on a NAS? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? |
