Thanks, this trace is fine. Which version of WMP are you using? (press Alt+H then About to find out) Are you on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1?

I'm on Windows 8.1 (64bit). Windows Media Player verison is: 12.0.9600.17031

I will set up a test on the same version of Windows and WMP to see if I can reproduce this. The trace log shows that MinimServer did not send the incorrect container ID 0$ to WMP. MinimServer did send container IDs of the form 0$?items$nnnn. It could be that WMP is incorrectly treating the ? as a delimiter and ignoring everything after it.

I have installed the same version of WMP on Windows 8.1 update 1 and it is working OK for me. WMP does not send a BrowseMetadata request to MinimServer (the faulty request in your trace log) when I right-click on an album or artist.

Have you set any custom options in WMP that might be causing this request to be sent? Do you have any programs installed that might act as plug-ins to WMP and modify its behaviour by adding additional selections to the right-click menu?

None that I'm aware of, but will check when back in front to the PC. What version of Java do you have on the server and client ? I installed the latest versions (as of about a week ago), I doubt this is the issue either, but might be worth me giving it a try...?

The Java version is definitely not the issue because this would not cause WMP to issue a BrowseMetadata request from your copy of WMP but not from my copy of WMP.

Are you able to use WMP with any other UPnP servers? If so, what selections appear on the right-click menu when this menu is displayed successfully?

I have reproduced this problem by selecting the Play tab on WMP before doing the right-click. This activates the "Play To" feature of WMP.

The problem is caused by WMP truncating the UPnP objectID if the objectID contains a '?' character. There is nothing in the UPnP specification that prohibits the use of '?' in an objectID, so this is a bug in WMP.

As there is not much chance of getting Microsoft to fix this bug, I will change the '?' character used in some MinimServer objectIDs to a different character in the next MinimServer update. This will fix the crash and will enable MinimServer to support the "Play To" feature of WMP.
