Naim N-Stream App does not play anything

Naim N-Stream App does not play anything
Hello Simon,

I have a problem with the Naim N-Stream iOS App. It does not play any track from minimserver, while using the Synology media server it works fine. I have tried flac and mp3.

The symptom: Usually if you step into a folder that contains some music tracks, the app offers you an area right above the track list with some album info and a "play" and "enqueue" button. This area does not show up. It seems that the app does not fully understand that the tracks inside the folder are playable. On the other hand the tracks are listed in the normal folder view. You can touch a single track and n-stream offers you a context menu with a "play" and "enqueue" menu items for this track. Choosing one of these does not have an effect.

Is this a known compatibility problem? Is there something that can be configured different to enhance compatibility?

The same tracks are played fine using BubbleUPnP on Android.

What I am using:
* Synology DS312+
* latest Minimserver 0.8.130.jar
* Java 8 ppc-e500v2-03_mar_2014
* Naim Uniti 1
* latest N-Stream 3.6

I have tried to create a tracing log, but am not sure if everything went fine. I have cleared the log, did step into the folder "1984 - Purple Rain" and tried to play "Computer Blue".

This might be related to your transcoding settings. Please try removing the flac:L24 setting in stream.transcode to see whether this makes a difference.

RE: Naim N-Stream App does not play anything
I have removed the settings and restarted the server. Now I can play a single track (by using the menu items in its context item). But the info-area for the whole folder to play all the tracks of the album still does not show up. (I have also tried to clear the UPnP-Cache in the app, but this did not help. Tested with flac and mp3 again.)

Using wav24 as target format does have the same effect as removing all transcoding rules.

The problem with L24 transcoding should be fixed in the next release of MnimStreamer.

I don't understand what is causing the problem with playing all tracks of an album. I haven't had any other reports from n-Stream users about this problem. Are you seeing this problem with all your albums?

RE: Naim N-Stream App does not play anything
Thank you for the forthcoming L24 fix.

Regarding the play-whole-folder-function: Yes, as far as I have tried, I see the problem with all kind of albums. I first thought that it might have to do with some special characters (like brackets, etc.), but this seems unrelated.

The next thing I will try when I have access to the hifi system again, is to turn of the meta-tag-folders that minimserver generates for each folder. If this does not help, I will ask in the naim forum.

I'm not sure what you mean by meta-tag folders. I suspect that I'm not understanding what you're trying to do. Are you able to select a complete album from the "n albums" list and play this album? Can you post some screenshots to illustrate the scenario that isn't working?

RE: Naim N-Stream App does not play anything
Setting the property "showExtras" to "false" makes the N-Stream app work fine. :|

I guess I should report this as a bug to Naim? Or is there something that can be done in minimserver implementation or configuration to enhance the compatibility?

Oh I did not see your response before. With "meta tag folder" I meant the showExtras >>-folder.

As it says in the MinimServer documentation, showExtras can cause problems with some control points. This usually depends on how much caching and preloading the control point is doing.

You might like to try changing the UPnP compatibility setting in n-Stream to see if this makes a difference.

I doubt that Naim would consider this a bug, but there is no harm in reporting it in case they are interested in fixing it.
