MinimServer and Java now available in QNAP App Center
MinimServer and Java are now available for installation from the QNAP App Center.

The Java version has been updated to Java 8 for all QNAP NAS models (Intel and ARM). Unlike the previous QNAP ARM installation package for Java, the new package is self-contained and doesn't require the user to download Java from the Oracle web site.

All MinimServer QNAP users are recommended to update to the new MinimServer and Java packages. For full instructions on doing these updates, see the Installing MinimServer on a QNAP NAS page. These updates can be applied to all QNAP models and all firmware versions.

I've discovered a potential problem when the NAS is rebooted. It seems the package startup can occur out of order so that MinimServer fails to start because JRE or JRE_ARM hasn't been started yet. Until I have a solution for this problem, it would be better not to update an existing working installation.

I've added a fix for this problem to the MinimServer QNAP installation packages. The new packages (MinimServer-0.8.1.1-x86.qpkg for Intel models and MinimServer-0.8.1.1-arm.qpkg for ARM models) are now available for download from the Downloads page.

If you have any previous version of MinimServer installed, you can manually install the 0.8.1.1 package to fix the startup problem. At present, the 0.8.1.1 packages aren't available in the QNAP App Center.
