A full function linux control point?

RE: A full function linux control point?
I have just discovered the 'play from here' menu items in the new release. Brilliant. Then benefit of the new use of buttons rather than menu items becomes clear. Tonight I was looking to play a set of tracks from an Oratorio and this made it really easy to do so. Apologies for missing it before.

I think the reason I didn't spot them immediately is that they appear at track level, not container level, and many of my plays are done above track level. Is that intentional? So, for instance, if I have an Album with many 'Works' (groups of tracks), and/or minimserver 'Groups' (which can be Works, or parts of Works such as Acts in an opera), I do not have the option to 'play from here' half way through the Album (which could be many discs-worth).

I had not thought that this would be useful for containers, but your 'Works' usage certainly makes sense. However, this would be much more complicated to do than it seems, and I'd rather avoid it if I can Smile Why not go up one level in the hierarchy, add the whole thing, and edit / start play as appropriate inside the playlist instead ?

I have just added code to restore the scroll state when going back in the hierarchy (and a "back" popup if you click away from entries), so this should be much more practical now.

Also the "dark" button does something now, the default view is styled so the active buttons should be a bit more visible. and the splitter state is saved / restored when quitting and re-starting the app.

Thanks. I hadn't realised it would be more difficult to act on containers. 'play from here' is a lot easier for a user than editing a playlist that can be quite long (we are talking over a hundred tracks in some cases). And I'm lazy. Getting to where I can see, say, all the Parts of an Oratorio and then having to back up to 'play all' is another mouse click Smile

I'll try the new features later and report back.

I've just tried all those new features. This is getting really good. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I do. It's clean, simple, intuitive, practical, hasn't crashed, and is on linux.

If there's a way I can let more people know about it, and you want to do so, let me know.

Thanks. A good part of these qualities were inherited from its ancestor, Sayonara. And yes, I do enjoy using it, and its initial goal are mostly reached: a usable control point for the Linux desktop, useful to me both as such, and for testing stuff with the upmpdcli renderer.

I have released the last changes as release 0.8.6 and updated the Ubuntu packages, and I guess it's ready for wider testing, so, yes, if you want to talk about it in your favorite haunts, go for it, thanks !

I guess that the Minim forum users have been enough informed already...

I don't have a very wide set of 'haunts', but I'll mention it where I can.

Thanks for being so responsive to my suggestions. I think I have a couple more up my sleeve, but will leave them for the moment and enjoy what you have provided.

Never hesitate with the suggestions, here or on the GitHub issues, recording them somewhere (esp. on GitHub) gives a better chance to be implemented one day, and I don't feel any pressure, ideas are welcome.

Hi,

Yes, this is on the TODO, but it will probably have to wait a bit. Actually, I would like 2 search functions, a local one for quick jumping in a long directory listing, and the server one.
