incremental or realtime scanning
Hi,

I am new to the minimserver community but I like this server for my magic stream 6. I do have a couple of questions:
1. how can I force scanning of only newly added files (incremental scan)?
rescan does a complete rescan from scratch (by the looks of it)
2. what does minimwatch icw minimserver?
I hoped it would give me more control over files and rescanning.
3. It maybe a noob question or a case of not reading all info available but I don't get a most of the server properties except contentdir Smile

I hope people can help...

Rescan does a complete rescan, but not from scratch. It uses a cache to avoid the need to read audio files that haven't changed since the last rescan.

This is described on this page.

You can find a description of all these properties on this page.

RE: incremental or realtime scanning
1. you are right but with my collection 400.000 recognized files, it takes around 2 hours (8 hrs from scratch). During the rescan minim is unavailable.
Any plans to keep the service available during scan?
2. I figured it out. watch on a different pc acts like a remote control (nice).
On the same host as server it will not work (seems logical)
3. I figured out a lot of settings. Not likely to change default.

All in all a great server. I hope Parallel scanning is available soon.

cheers,
Stefan

You can start music playing before the scan starts, and it will continue to play while the scan is happening.

A rescan time of 2 hours for 400,000 files is longer than I would expect. Are these files on a HDD that is attached locally to the computer or NAS running MinimServer? If the files are on a network drive, the rescan time will be much longer.

I'm hoping to add support for incremental and/or parallel rescanning. This will require some internal redesign, so it's a fairly major piece of work.

RE: incremental or realtime scanning
Hello Simon.

Files were on a readynas (pro6 x86).

So I tried to install minimserver on the readynas.
1. install java: got the right package and put it on the backup share after renaming it to *.tar.gz (used chrome)
error: ERROR: no EJRE archive file on 'backup' share
My backup share is actually 'BACKUP' in capitals. Does this cause the error?

** should be 'backup'. fixed the foldername and installed java and minimserver **

2. uninstalling the jre installer is impossible. The addon is not listed.

** after installation, the addons are visible and can be deinstalled **
** phew **

new! unfortunately my Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 does not recognize minimserver
on my readynas. Same goes for readydlna 1.1.1.2 (latest) which is native for readnas.
All other devices like samsung tv, xbmc, MS media player and foobar can see/use minimserver
on the readynas.

Problem dropped with Cambridge Audio. No reply yet.

regards,
Stefan

RE: incremental or realtime scanning
update:

Cambridge Audio support suggested to turn off jumbo frames on the readynas. This worked but imho not a solution. I suggested a fix in the next firmware. Other devices and apps do see the upnp/dlna services and I think so should the stream magic 6. I am awaiting respons from CA support. Will keep you updated.

When you update an existing post, the forum doesn't give any notification that this has happened, so other users are unlikely to see the added content. For new information, it's better to write a new post.

RE: incremental or realtime scanning
CA support sent the problem to software dev. I guess it will be fixed in a new version.
