QNAP Problem
Hi,
I have a QNAP 412 - so I did the install for the ARM processor as instructed. I installed a JRE from Oracle (ejre-7u51-fcs-b13-linux-arm-sflt-headless-18_dec_2013.tar.gz) and run through the QPKG malarky. It installed OK and although after turning it on it didn't show it was turned on the log file reported it was on --> [APP CENTRE] JRE enabled. However, when I try to install MinimServer I get a failure and a log file entry of --> Minimserver installation failed - JRE QPKG not installed (or words to that effect). Anyone got any ideas? I am a Linux novice so please be gentle with me. Bill |

What I tried to say was that the screen in the QNAP utility did not show it that the JRE had been enabled, that was all. If the Java logo was shown as orange, this is the visual indication that the JRE QPKG is enabled. I'm still not quite sure whether you saw this. Did you by any chance download a different Java .tar.gz file as well as the file that you mentioned? If so, the JRE QPKG might have installed this other .tar.gz file intead of the correct file. In this case, the Java logo would show as orange even though a wrong version of Java is installed. I think the best approach is to uninstall both MinimServer and the JRE from the QPKG Center and then reinstall the JRE followed by MinimServer. Before you reinstall the JRE QPKG, make sure that the only Java download in the Public share is the correct ejre-7u51-fcs-b13-linux-arm-sflt-headless-18_dec_2013.tar.gz file. After reinstalling the JRE QPKG, enable it and make sure the Java logo is shown as orange. It would also be a good idea to login to the QNAP using putty (if you have a Windows PC) and run the command: /usr/local/jre/bin/java -version This will confirm whether the correct version of Java is installed. If this command shows the correct Java version, you should be able to install the MinimServer QPKG successfully. |

Yup I was looking for the logo to go orange but it didn't, but as I said the logfile said the JRE had loaded. Why can't life be simple more often? Bill |

RE: QNAP Problem
Good Morning Simon. I restarted the JRE this morning and lo and behold it turned orange, not only that it allowed me to install MinimServer. I get my QNAP NAS to turn off overnight, so the re-boot must have done it.
MinimServer shows that it has turned on - ie the picture of a button shows in the on position. But what do I do next? If I click on the MinimServer icon it shows me some facts about MinimServer but no links to configure etc. Thanks for your input. Bill |

RE: QNAP Problem
I spoke too soon. I run the updates, including MinimStreamer (do I need this, guess I do) and the last one (19) failed and in the logfile I get the message:
Minim Streamer - 0.3-112.jar requires module jminim-0.6.114. But if I sop it in QNAP and restart it then it is back again. Why does MinimStreamer cock it up? What is MinimStreamer? |

From this message, it seems you have tried to install MinimStreamer before applying the necessary updates to MinimServer. You should start by applying all the updates to MinimServer and relaunching MinimServer to activate these updates. After you have done this, you can install MinimStreamer if you need it. To find out more about what MinimStreamer does, you can visit the MinimStreamer website. |
