[folder view] sort
I use [folder view] a lot. It looks like files are sorted by Album, then Track number/Title. Can I change the order to Artist, then Title? Not all files have Track numbers. What is the convention for files with and without? Thanks.

The items are sorted by album first, then by track number, then by track title.

To use the custom sorting facilities of MinimServer, you can select a folder using folder view and then select '>> Tag View' to get the usual MinimServer tag view of the contents of the folder.

So there is no way in changing that sort order? I set showExtras to false, so don't see >>Tag View.

Can you change showExtras to true? Is there a problem with using this with your control point?

There isn't any way to change the sort order for folder view.

I changed it to true. I guess I don't like seeing >>Hide Comments. Thanks for the clarification.

I'd like to eliminate the extra step with the '>> Hide' choice, but I haven't yet found a way to do this without causing problems with duplicate tracks being added when the complete folder is selected for playing.

I forgot to ask: Any plans to offer a different sorting order? I don't find Albums as the first one very useful.

It would be possible to change this to use the same sort order that is used for other lists of items:

1) Title
2) Artist
3) Date

Would this be better for you?

The disadvantage of this is that songs from the same album would no longer be grouped together. I think some users might prefer the current approach of grouping songs by album.

RE: [folder view] sort
Only looking at the folder view, I guess it depends how the library is organised. I have several thousand items grouped in up to three levels of folders: Alphabet letter, Artist and Album (e.g. S > Santana > Supernatural).

If I have either a complete album or the majority of songs on an album, the items go into the deepest level (Album). If I have several songs from an artist (perhaps from various albums), they go in the Artist folder. If I have only one song from an artist, they go in the Alphabet letter folder.

Whilst Title, Artist and Date tags are always populated, this is not always the case for the Album tag. In this instance, the songs are all listed under Unknown Album. In addition, the items then get sorted by Title before Artist, which is confusing in the top level folder.

Personally, I like 1) Artist 2) Title [3) Date], and I can see a problem with the grouping songs by album default if the Tag is empty.

I'm not sure what you mean by "listed under Unknown Album". Are you referring to the [no album] index in the Tag View list of albums, or is this something you are seeing in the folder view?

I'm also not sure what you mean by items getting sorted by Title before Artist. In the folder view, there is no sorting by artist.

The scheme of grouping songs by album in the folder view shouldn't cause a problem if the Album tag is missing. Any songs without an Album tag should be grouped together after all the album groups and sorted by Title. Is this what you are seeing?
