It is unfortunate that both the LUMIN app and JPLAY idenitify MinimServer's intelligent browsing index as folder browsing. This creates a lot of confusion in discussions such as this one.

However, it is good that both these apps provide the option to view this index. My understanding is that Serento doesn't provide this option.

Hello everyone,

Version 1.0.8 is live on the App Store and brings multi-disc albums under control, notes you can keep on any track, and artist images straight from your server.

NEW

Multi-disc albums. Every disc now carries its own play button, so you can start just that disc, and its own collapse control, so you can fold away the ones you are not listening to. A folded disc that holds the track currently playing shows a soft moving ring, so you never lose where you are. The same applies when you browse by folder.

Track notes. Keep a note on any track, with the moment you were listening to it.

Artist images from your server. If you run MinimServer with index artwork, Serento can now use the artist portraits you already curate. Settings, Display, Artist Options explains which folder to create, how to name the files and the server setting it needs. It is off by default, because it applies to MinimServer only.

Genre Options. Custom genres, with the same kind of explanation of what the server needs.

Please read the guide in the app or on the website to learn how to enable these.

IMPROVED

Linn and Lumin streamers are recognised as OpenHome again, so the full playlist transport is used instead of the basic one.

Twonky libraries sync completely. Twonky answers searches differently from what Serento expected, so it is now walked folder by folder, like the other servers that need it.

Folder browsing is faster on large trees.

On iPad and Mac the album loading placeholder now matches the layout it turns into, so nothing jumps when the album arrives.

FIXED

Back returns you where you came from. Opening an album from Now Playing while you are listening from a playlist takes you back to that playlist rather than to the list of playlists, and doing the same from Classical keeps you in Classical.

An album you are already looking at is no longer opened a second time on top of itself.

Albums reached through Folders now open correctly from Now Playing, instead of reporting that the album is missing.

On iPad, the more button on a track row no longer starts playback when your finger lands just beside it.

Volume is reported correctly again, and Recently Played records what you actually played.

Many bug fixes and other small improvements.

Last day testing:

IndexArtwork is added and shows most of my images.
Custom genre images show without problems.

Serento seems to have problems with artists tagged as XXXXX, The or YYYYY, De.
These artists show up as The XXXXX and De YYYYY and so are not found in the indexArtist folder.
Serento alternatively shows a downloaded image, but this works far from perfect.
    Problem with XXXXX, The : for example (the Eagles shouldn't be hard to find)
    Eagles, The: LUMIN
    Fabulous Thunderbirds, The: LUMIN
    Last Shadow Puppets, The: LUMIN

After installing the latest Serento version the time progress bar stopped working and the queue doesn't show the track playing (it shows the first track and then stops).

What I really miss is an alphabetic index to scroll through artists/albums.

LUMIN and Kazoo do have this feature, although a bit quirky.
CA connect is a winner in this case, it shows the selected letter and is very easy to use.

How are your artists displayed in track listings because that's where they're likely pulled from (as they were for Genre). You should be able to test this by setting:

Are you using the sort tags in indexes and the non-sort tags in track listings? If that's the case then you should already have:

Your second suggestion also leads to code red.
