Music Fidelia (Mac player) now browses MinimServer libraries directly
Developer here — Patrick Krekelberg, Audiofile Engineering. Flagging that up front since this is about my own app.

Fidelia, our Mac audiophile player, now browses UPnP/DLNA media servers directly, and MinimServer is one of the servers we proved it on with live libraries before shipping. Your MinimServer library appears in Fidelia's sidebar next to local files — one search across both — and plays out to USB or to any UPnP renderer, either bit-perfect or through the full signal path (crossfeed, psychoacoustic dither, SRC, Audio Unit chain) before it leaves the Mac.

The reason I'm posting here specifically: this forum has the most metadata-serious UPnP users anywhere, and metadata is exactly where UPnP clients earn or lose their keep. DIDL varies between servers far more than the spec suggests, and the awkward cases are where it shows — classical works and movements, multi-disc sets, compilations, very large libraries. If you browse MinimServer in a way you suspect most clients get wrong, I would genuinely like to hear how Fidelia handles it, good or bad.

Browsing your server is free, no purchase. Network playback has a 14-day trial that starts only when you switch it on, so you can install now and start the clock when you actually have an evening for it.

Happy to answer anything about how we read what MinimServer serves.

Cheers and thanks all!

Is a windows version planned?

Apologies for the slow reply, RSJ. Fidelia runs on Mac, iPhone and iPad, and there's no Windows version planned.

A few things have changed since my first post here that MinimServer users may care about:

• Fidelia for iPhone and iPad came out in September. It browses MinimServer the same way the Mac app does, and plays to the phone, a USB DAC or a UPnP renderer.
• Edits to the playing playlist, and Play Next, reach a bit-perfect renderer straight away. If a renderer goes quiet after a network hiccup, Fidelia gives it the music again or stops and says why.
• A server that comes back at a new address, say a NAS on DHCP after a reboot, is found again. Seeking in a track from the server stays silent until it lands, instead of playing on from the old spot.
• Fidelia shows what's already playing on a renderer, whether from Fidelia on another device or from another UPnP app, and can take it over.

Browsing a server is still free; playing from it is part of the one-time Network & Server unlock, with a 14-day trial. Reports on how it handles your tags are very welcome.

Cheers,
Patrick
