Content Directory file path issue
I have a Linn DSM2. I was using a late 2018 Mac mini (still am) but also modernized a bit in January with an M2 silicon chip Mac mini. I'm not upgrading to Sonoma on the 2018 mac. I have apps that required the M2 because they were written for a silicon chip and can't be used with an Intel. I was hoping to continue using the 2018 Mac mini with Kazoo Server and Kazoo and Konfig, but Linn doesn't support Kazoo server anymore. More importantly, the M2 supposedly should let Kazoo Server work through Rosetta, but it doesn't for me and so I upgraded to the Linn app and did the firmware on the Linn streamer and the newer Davaar won't work with Kazoo server. So the 2018 is running MinimServer. But in regards to Server Properties, Content Directory, I can't add a file path that works. You see my 2018 is a great little but powerful computer, bought it on Canuck Audio Mart, but with a 128 GB internal drive, I had to run a Sandisk external drive, and point Apple Music to it. I can't find a file path for it. The drive is called Archive, and my 300 GB of music is contained within (music, media). But that is not a conventional file path for music and I don't know how to set it up or configure it inside 'properties', 'server', contentDir. I'd like to use the 2018 Mac mini to stream music in addition to the new Mac mini. I would like to be able to use MinimServer on the 2018. I don't know how to get the right file path to the external drive. Does anyone have ideas? Thanks, Dave

RE: Content Directory file path issue
If you can see the folder containing your music in Finder, you should be able to use Finder to drag and drop this folder into the contentDir field in the MinimServer properties dialog. This doesn't move or copy the folder or its files, just copies the folder path.

RE: Content Directory file path issue
Okay, well, I click on the drive Archive on the sidebar of finder, it reveals a folder called media, if I click on that I get 2 folders, 'automatically add to music', and 'music'.
I can drag either folder in and they won't stick, they just pop back to the desktop. Using properties/server/content directory. I also get a screen showing 'status', it will accept me dragging in one of the folders, but after I save it it doesn't work and the MinimServer icon in the menubar is red again. |

RE: Content Directory file path issue
Supposing you want to add the Archive ssd/hdd the folder structure should be
Archive/Music/…. and the path should be /Volumes/Archive/Music |

RE: Content Directory file path issue
So are you saying that is what I enter when I go to configure under 'properties', 'server', 'contentDir'?
I would just type in - /Volumes/Archive/Music? That should do it? |

RE: Content Directory file path issue
It refused it, the message in red said 'must be a directory'.

RE: Content Directory file path issue
Is the complete path you entered in contentDir actually a directory? Mine was just an example, I cannot know which is the folder tree on your hdd/ssd

RE: Content Directory file path issue
I don't know much about computers.
Therefore I'm not sure what is meant by a directory. I have file path turned on in finder for view, and this is what it shows at the bottom of finder: Archive > Media > Music To be honest, for now, for ease of use, I remembered I had used Asset UPnP a while back on my Late 2018 Mac mini, and I set it up again half an hour ago, and it's running fabulously. So I will continue to monitor this forum and learn more. So, my 2023 M2 Mac mini functions fine with MinimServer, and my late 2018 Mac mini is doing well with Asset, and I can use either computer with my Linn DSM, and I am a happy camper. Both very fine pieces of software, for my use anyway. I appreciate the help I received from Simon and members of this forum. Thanks! |

RE: Content Directory file path issue
Please try /Volumes/Archive/Media/Music in the contentDir field of Properties > Server and let me know whether this works.
