Playlists: show albums, not titles
Hi,

sorry, yet another question:

I have several albums in one playlist on my Synology NAS. When choosing the playlist in my app, the single titles will be shown, but not the albums.
What I would like is first click on the playlist, then have the opportunity to click on an album, then choose a title.

Do think this is possible?

Regards
Thokra

RE: Playlists: show albums, not titles
A .m3u playlist is an ordered list of songs (tracks). The .m3u format doesn't provide a way to specify album names. This is why MinimServer presents a .m3u playlist as a list of songs.

MinimServer is able to read album information from file tags, so it would be possible to do something like you are suggesting. I would be concerned about making this change because it could produce unexpected results in some cases. For example, if two consecutive songs in the playlist happen to be from the same album, most users would not expect to see an album folder in this case. Also, some control points might not expect to find album folders in a playlist and might fail to play a playlist containing album folders.

You could get something close to what you want by adding Playlist tags to your files. For example, if you add the tag Playlist=Relaxing to a set of files, selecting Playlist > Relaxing in the MinimServer index will show you that set of files with the album groupings that you want. You can't specify the order of the list in the same way that you can for a .m3u file but MinimServer provides a number of ways to control how index entries are sorted.

RE: Playlists: show albums, not titles
Hi Simon,

thanks again for your fast reply and your detailled answer.

I see, it's not my missing knowledge, but it's a feature.
So I've rearranged my playlists and keep on enjoying Minimalserver and my music. :-)

Regards
Thomas
