Too many albums displayed on Lumin
I have quite a large collection of CDs on my Melco N1/A, driven by Lumin app on my iPad. When I scan my 3500 CDs with Twonky it shows about 3500 and is fine. When I scan with Minimserver I get nearly 4000 CDs.
This seems to be because for many orchestral CDs it breaks down individual works showing them as separate CDs. For example, the CD, Telemann: Concertos & cantata Ihr Völker Hört shows each work as a separate CD (with the same album cover!) i.e Telemann - Concerto in E major twv53 - Andante Telemann - Concerto in E major twv53 - Allegro Telemann - Concerto in E major twv53 - Siciliano Telemann - Concerto in E major twv53 - Vivace The above appear as an album called Telemann: Concerto in E major twv53 and the next four tracks appear as an album called, e.g. Telemann: Concerto in A minor twv52 and so on. If I use Linn Kazoo app a similar thing happens - it lists all the Concerti, and then you click on each one to reveal the files of the movements. When I use Twonky this does not happen - it shows all the files on a CD in the same directory - which I prefer. In the metadata (I use Tag Editor) album names, artist and album artist are consistent. I do not understand the subtleties of Minimserver - in indexTags I have Album, Date, Genre, AlbumArtist, Composer, Year in TagFormat I have Title.displayFormat={$title^$date^ ~ ^$composer^ [^]} - I like to see composer. Under TagOptions, I have all.ignore.sort={The,A,An,Der,Die,Das,Le,La,Les,Un,Une,Il,El}, So what am I doing wrong? Cheers Donuk - sunny downtown York (at last) |

RE: Too many albums displayed on Lumin
It sounds like you are using the Group tag (or possibly populating the Group tag from Work information). If so, this behaviour is expected. Do your files have Group tags?
Another possibility is that each concerto has an Album tag with the name of the concerto. Do you see the same thing on other control points or just with the LUMIN app? |

RE: Too many albums displayed on Lumin
Can you check disc number and track number?
They should be disc number = 1/1 and tracks number = n/23 where n is from 1 to 23 As far as I can see on Qobuz in that album the Work tag is used to identify each composition |

RE: Too many albums displayed on Lumin
Thanks for the replies
It looks as though it is responding to Group tagging. Yes - checked another disk that shows up as a multiple. Yes it is indeed responding to the group tagging. Next question - is it possible to configure Minimserver to ignore Group tagging? I must say that when looking for file info on Lumin you get a slightly obscurely written File Information. Really cool feature of Minimserver to offer Minimserver Decode to put the path in a more user friendly form! Donuk Donuk |

RE: Too many albums displayed on Lumin
To make MinimServer ignore Group tags, set the aliasTags property to Group:nil.

To use the MinimServer browse tree you need to click on the folder icon where you'll - probably - see at the top of the index, 3500 albums. Apologies if you know this already, but when I tried Lumin a year or two ago I found it quite confusing, so thought it might help explain some of the discrepancies e.g. with the numbers you'll see in the MinimServer log. |

RE: Too many albums displayed on Lumin
Update....
Getting my head round indicated numbers of CDs caused me to look a bit more closely. Firstly I found that Twonky looks only for a folder name when it scans. So if you have two CDs called April in Paris all the tracks are presented together as if they are on the same disk. It is not possible to play them separately. Even the files are stored in different sub-folders kept beneath a folder named after the artist. For example I have a folder called Charlie Parker with his CDs in, one of which is called April in Paris, as most people do. I have another artist with as CD called April in Paris, stored in its own subfolder. Minimserver will scan these two sub-folders separately and present both albums separately. While researching the above I raise my praise for the Lumin app even higher. Its search function is swift and accurate (and adjustable). I tried the search function on Kazoo which is painfully slow, and turns up only track names as far as I can see. So you cannot search for a CD. Neither as far as I could see could you search for a CD name on the Linn White app. If you can, I don't need to know, life is short. I could not find it. But well done Minimserver, as you would expect. Donuk, York |
